i've been looking at a few decks lately that have been made for the new format..and a recent trend ive noticed is the use of only 2 cyber dragons instead of 3 like in the old one...im just curious, what's the reasoning behind it?

Its really no different than people dropping to 2 Smashing Ground when you could use 3. Sometimes, you need that one spot for something else, and since Cyber Dragon is more or less a flexible summon (use if to Tribute Summon a Monarch or another 5/6 Star Monster), and now that Ring of Destruction is gone, the chance to move something else into your Deck while still having the flexibility of 2 Cyber Dragon's, keeps you from having to increase your Deck Count to 41 or 42.

Lots of Decks still use 3, and probably will with the decrease of Monarch Tribute Support Material.

The number of Cyber Dragons used depends on how well your deck keeps field presence. If you're fully an aggressive deck, then three Cyber Dragons would be an obvious addition, as I doubt you'd be on the defensive very much.

I take it though the decks running two Cyber Dragons were mostly Apprentice Monarch? In that case, it would make sense to drop a Cyber Dragon, seeing how Apprentice Magicians keep field presence easily. Having three Cyber Dragons would probably make you vunerable to increased dead draws. Don't forget as well that Cyber Dragon is just a "vanilla" beatstick, and without support, it can't even bypass a monarch.
