A Legendary Ocean LOD-EN078

A Legendary Ocean
Field Spell

This card's name is treated as "Umi". Downgrade all WATER monsters in both player's hands and on the field by 1 Level. Increase the ATK and DEF of all WATER monsters by 200 points.

Field Spells. Mostly overlooked, but highly powerful in the right sort of deck. This week we look at some of the best.

"A Legendary Ocean" is obviously a staple for WATER themed decks. The 200 point bonus is often enough to raise most WATER-based creatures above most commonly played cards (Gagagigo becomes a 2050 ATK creature for example, while Giga Gagagigo becomes a 2650 ATK creature) but it also lowers their Level value by 1. This is great because a large number of powerful WATER creatures are Level 4, 5, and 7. 7 Star creatures now only need 1 tribute, 5 Star creatures need none, and the 4 Star creatures can now attack under "Gravity Bind" and "Level Limit - Area B"

All and all a solid and necessisary card for a WATER Themed deck.

If running a "fun" deck you could try Piranha Army and Opti-Camouflage Armor while ALO is in play, requires the 3 cards instead of just Amphibious Bugroth MK-3 & ALO but also gives an extra 300LP damage and unlike Amphibious Bugroth MK-3 it can still also get under Messenger of Peace.

Overall ALO is a great card, would love to see similar such field cards for the other Attributes but doubt that'll happen any time soon since it's probably the best thing water decks have going for them.

Yeah I sure like to see a card like this one be made for machine types. Heh, maybe they should actually create that 'Clockwork Night' spell card Nesbitt used in his duel against Tristan, Serenity and Duke.

But back to ALO. Its quite powerful. Monsters with rare effects like Suijin would now be economical in terms of tributing. Monsters like Terroking (augh, it should be Genocideking) Salmon could now be summoned like Four star monsters. Bugroth would do nicely. As would that Mermaid that can attack twice if 'Umi' is on the field. Then there's that leivathan of a sea serpent. The one that can destroy all othe cards on the field when you send 'Umi' to the graveyard.

I've probably had more fun lately making different decks with this card as the core than anything else.

The latest is a normal monster Water deck with Non-Spellcasting Arena/ Skill Drain / and Messenger of the Peace.

Granted, with Non-Spellcasting Arena the 200 pt boost is negated from Legendary Ocean but the cards in my hand are still lowered by 1 level allowing me to summon L5 without tribute and if my opponent destroys Non-Spellcasting Arena by something other than Heavy Storm (in advanced play) my water monsters are boosted again.

Cool. I like to see such a deck if you don't mine asking for the deck list. I always wondered about what would be the best way to use Non-spellcasting Arena and by george, I think water is quite an interesting method of using it. Heh, now all your water mosnters will have an ability similar to the Fisherman.

Force of the Ocean

I have both a ALO deck and a Umi deck. My ALO deck works much better. It has beaten most opponents. It has a little trouble dealing with Control Decks, but now that I have [Abyss Soldier], that may change.
