Key Matchups:

Michael Vick and Shawn Alexander against the 49er's rush defense, mainly the linebackers, Clark Haggans, Dan Morgan, and Demarcus Ware.

The niners started off reciving, as a result of losing the toss. Clinton Portis was injured on the first play of the drive, so Larry Johnson had to come in. On a third and 6, Ken Hamlin was called for pass interference, continuing the drive. He was also injured on the play. The penalty turned out to be uninportant, as the niners couldn't move more than 3 yards on the next 3 plays. Sander's punt bounced into the endzone. Shawn Alexander got 4 yards on his first carry, but fumbled because of Dan Morgan. Dunta Robinson picked it up and moved forward a yard, but Richard Seymour went down on the play. After a run by Portis, Brad Johnson faked a handoff to him again, and found Chad Johnson wide open for a 17 yard touchdown. Scobee missed the extra point though, some thought him to be injured, but he wasn't. Derrick Blaylock, the Raiders return man, was injured on the subsequent kick off, after taking a hard hit from Brodney Pool. After a big sack of Vick by Randy Starks, it was 3rd and 13. Vick found David Givens for a gain of 17 yards. A 36 yard catch by Billy Miller brought the Raiders to the 20 yard line. Vick ended the drive with a 9 yard touchdown run on the last play of the first quarter.

BJ Sams fumbled the kickoff, giving the Raiders the ball at the 32. A third down sack by Matt Roth put the Raiders at the 37 yard line, just in range for a 54 yard Adam Vinetari field goal attempt. It split the uprights, giving the Raiders a 4 point lead. On a third and 9 at their own 21, Brad Johnson completed a 46 yard pass to Chad Johnson. The following 30 yard catch by Jabar Gaffney put the 49ers at the 5 yard line with 2 minutes left in the half. They couldn't move the ball anywhere but backwards, so Scobee put up a 26 yard field goal. The 49ers forced a punt with 50 seconds left on the That was 33 seconds to long, as the Brad Johnson only needed 18 seconds to hook up with Chad Johnson for their second touchdown, this one 76 yards. Scobee actually made this extra point, putting the 49ers up by 6. The Raiders moved the ball, but didn't score again before half time.

The Raiders had a quick 3 and out on their first second half possession. 2 David Garrard passes, 4 Larry Johnson runs, and a Garrard 1 yard touchdown run later, the 49ers made the score 22-10. They couldn't convert, and stayed up by 12. The third quarter came to an end with the Raiders driving.

However, they couldn't continue their drive, failing to convert on a 4th and 17. Garrard couldn't continue his magic though, as he lead the 49ers down to the red zone, but threw it to Hannibal Navies. He ran it back to the 24. After nickel and diming it down the feild, Quincy Carter ran it in from 3 yards out. Jabar Gaffney picked up the onside kick, icing the win. The niners ran a simple toss to Larry Johnson, and he took it 52 yards, to put the niners up 29-17 with the Scobee kick. After an Antwan Odom sack on 4th down (his third on the day), the niners got the ball back for 6 seconds. This was just enough time for a David Garrard to Doug Gabriel touchdown, extending the lead to 36 to 17.

After losing the toss, the Niners recived the ball. After consectuive 10 yard runs by Clinton Portis, Brad Johnson play faked it to him again, then found Chad Johnson wide open for a 53 yard touchdown pass. Steve McNair lead the Broncos back, his first completion a 25 yard pass to Ernie Cronwell. Phillip Buchanon was hurt on the play. That was the only successful play on the drive though, as 3 plays later they were punting. Scott Player pinned the 9ers on their own 7 yard line. On a 3rd and 4 play from their own 28, Brad Johnson went to Jabar Gaffney. He made the catch about 10 yards down field and out ran the defense, putting the 49ers up, 14-0 on the last play of the quarter.

After another 3 and out, San Fransisco got the ball at their own 39 yard line. A few Portis runs, and a big catch by Chad Johnson, and the niners were within 7 yards of paydirt. Then 2 consecutive sacks, and they were at third and goal from the Bronco's 22. Brad Johnson couldn't convert a pass to Clarence Moore, so they had to settle for a 40 yard field goal. Another Cronwell catch, followed by a 3 and out, left the Bronco's punting with 1:58 left in the half. On 3rd and 6 from their 34, Brad Johnson saw 9 guys in the box and audibled to a pass. He found Jabar Gaffney 11 yards down feild, effectively continuing the drive. On the next third down, Johnson found Portis for 11 yards and another first down. This put them 18 yards from field goal range with 51 seconds and 2 time outs left. 43 seconds later, there was another Johnson to Johnson connection, their second of the game, two games in a row. This put San Fransisco up, 24-0.

Denver went 3 and out on their first second half possession. San Fransisco can get it no farther than the 17 yard line though, and are forced to kick another field goal. Denver comes back with a 57 yard touchdown pass from Stefan LeFors to Terrance Murphy to put the score at 27-7.

Being in control of the game, San Fransisco ran down the clock in the 4th quarter. Larry Johnson and Troy Fleming were happy to oblige, combining for 72 yards and a touchdown (Johnson) in the 4th quarter alone. After a failed 4th down conversion, at their own 23, the Broncos let San Fransisco run out the clock with kneel downs.

The Titans won the toss and elected to recieve. Tennessee got one first down on a 13 yard rumble by Bus Bettis, but were ultimately forced to punt. From the 27 yard line, Brad Johnson found Ben Watson at the 14. With three titans between him and the endzone, Watson just put his head down and plowed through them, getting in for 6. A sack by Dan Morgan on 3rd and inches forced the Titans to kick the easy field goal, cutting San Fransisco's lead to 4. Big passes by Brad Johnson, one to Clarence Moore, one to Jabar Gaffney, lead to a short touchdown run by Clinton Portis to give the 49ers an 10 point lead, as Scobee missed his second point after in the pre season. A Dan Morgan interception gave the niners the ball back with 1:32 left in the first half. With 3 seconds left on the clock, at the Titans 5, the 49ers went for the touchdown. They failed as Anthony Henry knocked the pass down.

A quick 3 and out lead to Tennessee getting good field position, at their own 38 yard line. The Titans had their own 3 and out. The niners ended up with the ball at their own 20. Terreal Bierria tried to jump a David Garrard pass to Ernest Wilford, but missed it, allowing Wilford to gain 76 yards and six points. Scobee added the extra point to extend their lead to 17. Tennessee had a drive going, but Losman took 2 consecutive sacks, and threw a short pass on third down, forcing them to punt. The niners countered with their own 3 and out, in the meantime found out that Phillip Buchanon was out for the season with a hip fracture. A good punt by Sander left the Titans to start from their own 12 yard line. However, the Titans gave the ball back with another punt. The niners began rushing, taking the clock down to 2 minutes. Larry Johnson ran it in with 1 second left, giving the niners a 27-3 win.
