Abyss Soldier #CMC-EN001
Card # CMC-EN001
Card Name: Abyss Soldier
Monster Type: Aqua
Attribute: WATER
Level: 4
Attack: 1800
Defense: 1300
Effect:
Discard 1 WATER monster from your hand to the Graveyard. Return 1 card on the field to the owner's hand. You can only use this effect once per turn, during your Main Phase.
Folks, if you're playing a Water deck this card simply rocks!
With A Legendary Ocean it's a 2000 atk beat stick. Obviously though, there are many 1800 or higher atk Water monsters that you can get out on the field easily. That's not Abyss Soldier's fame.
Return 1 Card....now keep it mind it doesn't specify spell, trap, or face up or down monster....nor does it specify on your opponent's side of the field. Those non-specifics make it HIGHLY versitile!
Perhaps the most overlooked possiblities with Abyss Soldier's effect is the option to send your own cards back to your hand.
Send your Premature Burial back to your hand and use it again.
Send your Swords of Revealing Light back to your hand after the second turn to be used again.
If you're playing a bind deck send Gravity Bind back to your hand to attack with your big boys and then set it again.
I'm sure you're getting the picture and can come up with many more possibilities along these lines.
So you say, "Yeah, but I have to discard!"
Right, let's look at those options as well. Don't forget that some of the most powerful atk Water monsters are normal monsters....which leads us to that seldom used Soul Resurection. Not only can you summon your L5 monsters with no tributes with Legendary Ocean but you can bring them back into play with Soul Resurection.
Abyss Soldier is a good card to be playing with Forced Requisition. You're likely already using Tribe Infecting Virus. This deck is a solid one to use Forced Requisition in.
Lastly consider that if you're playing a Water deck you'll likely be playing with lots of normal monsters. Here's where Heart of the Underdog shines, in an Water deck....which feeds your hand for Abyss Soldier's effect, which feeds Forced Requisition's effect.
Of course you can always use Abyss Soldier's effect for it for the standard applications...
Don't like BLS? Send him away.
Jinzo bothering you? Be gone!
You say you don't like that Wave Motion Cannon sitting there with 3 counters? Buh bye!
Abyss Soldier has a great many possibilites and is a hugely vesitile card. Give a Water deck a go with it.
