hi there
just popped in to ask a q, here goes:

turn player(me):tibutes 1 monster for mobius the frost monarch
opp: activates trap hole
me: i will use mobius's priority to destroy 2 f/d magic/trap cards
opp: you can't do that, mobius is destroyed by trap hole
me: yes i can, his effect happens as soon as he hits the field
opp: no you can't because he is killed by trap hole

in the end we flipped a coin for it(i won :) )

now am i right or was he?

a monster and a monsters effect are different. Unless a monster's effect is continous (Jinzo for example) It is placed on a chain just like any other magic or trap card, and just like any non-continous magic or trap card, using a mystical space typhoon on a pot of greed does not prevent the person who played pot of greed from drawing 2 cards.

Likewise with Mobious, Just because Mobious is desroyed before his effect activates does not mean his effect disapears.

mobius effect activates as soon as it hit the field by a normal summon.

with out it actaully summoning there is no way for the opponent to use Trap hole or bottom less for that matter.

also, the summon wasnt negated so the effect trigger instantly, you choosing your stuff then your opponent responding to your summon.

I disagree that Bottomless cannot be used. He breaks 2 cards, that's for sure. But you can chain it on Mobius making it remove from the game. It's effect only breaks, it does not also negate the break cards' effect.

I think what he meant was that in order for someone to play Trap Hole or Bottomless Trap Hole the monster has to be successfully summoned first (thus activating their respective trigger effects). Many times people will say that Mobius/Zaborg/etc. don't get their effect when Trap Holed because they weren't successfully summoned...which is, of course, incorrect. If they were not successfully summoned, then the requirements for the Trap holes would not be fulfilled in the first place. Of course you can chain a Trap Hole or BTH to the effect of Mobius to kill him, but his effect is already on the chain at that point.

Let me clarify one thing (everything is done for emphasis ONLY and is not meant as screaming, hollering, etc.):

THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE OF PRIORITY.

His effect MUST activate, even if you choose 0 Spell/Trap Cards.

This is different from cards like Tribe-Infecting Virus, Magical Scientist, etc. where you can choose to activate their effects at any time during your turn (as long as you follow the proper rules, of course).

His effect is activated by the summoner of the card, but as you said his effect destroys 0, 1 or 2 cards, even if you don`t wanna destroy any card, his effect has been activated.

ok perhaps priority was the wrong word to use but never the less i was right about the situation, which i was more concerned about and my question has been answered, thanks for all your replies guys :)

actually your wrong, mobius has an optional effect.

the card states " YOu can"

hence you do not have to.

and yea i ment tribute summon, not cost down normal summon, which we all know with out cost down he is normal summoned by tribute.

also,

mobious will be removed from play if opponent decides to activate bottomless trap hole in responce to the summon.

first opponent summons mobius

this leads to opponent being able to use bottomless because the action required was done,

BUT there is a small halt because mobius has an effect of its own which happens to be spell speed 1.

traps are speed 2, so they can be put in a chain since they are responding to the summon.
