Ancient Gear Golem

I need help with the effect of Ancient Gear Golem. I play a big monster deck and the card i use a lot is monster gate. Golem's effect is that it cannot be special summoned and monster gate says that if a monster can be normal summon, special summon it. So would Ancient Gear Golem be special summoned by monster gate? Thanks

I gather Ancient Gear Golems effect only applies it self during the battle phase, it's not really specific on the card and the rulings on RONIN do not cover where the effect comes in since the effect is a continious one.

There are quite a few ways to bring out Ancient Gear Golem, you could have 3 x Nimble Momongas or Giant Germs in your deck, you could use Bubonic Vermin from PSV that replicates itself from your deck, Hyenas, the Statue of the Wicked combo (that I am sure everyone has heard about on the 1st episode of Yu-Gi-Oh GX so please no suggestions that it was your own idea because it is not). The Trojan Horse gives you a 2 for 1 tribute on 1 monster which is always helpful, The Agent of Creation and the Mystical Shine Balls is always popular or if you like you can use Machine Duplication which is a novel but cool way to summon tribute monsters from your deck.

It's clearly printed on the card:
This card cannot be Special Summoned. When this card attacks with an ATK that is higher than the DEF of a Defense Position monster, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points. If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell or Trap Cards until the end of the Damage Step.

The Damage step is the end of the current monster's attack, so the effect clearly will not benefit any other monsters when they attack.

No you misunderstand the question, I know that the effect of Ancient Gear Golem only applies to itself, I meant when does the effect start. I mean when you get the card on the field, does the effect of stopping spells and traps from being activated apply from then or does it start in the battle phase.

The effect starts from the moment you declare an attack with it until the end of the Damage step. So your opponent could conceivably activate a spell or trap card in the Battle Phase and target Ancient Gear Golem (Beast/Soldier) before you declare an attack with it.

That brings up a good question.

Does priority also pertain to the battle phase?

For example, wouldn't you as turn player be able to declare an attack before your opponent could activate any cards?

Obviously, they should just activate whichever card they wish to activate (if they can) when you declare the end of your main phase 1.

However, if I summoned AGG and ended my main phase 1 and opponent did not activate any cards, I would proceed into the Battle Phase and I should have the ability to attack with AGG before my opponent could activate their set card.

Not exactly as you're forgetting 2 things.

1) A phase can't end until both players agree so your opponent would have the chance to activate his card still in MP1.

2) The Battle Phase consists of 4 Steps. There is a step you proceed through BEFORE the Battle Declaration Step so again, there's another chance they would have to activate a S/T card before you could declare your attack.
