Black Luster Soldier - EOTB V.S. Solemn Judgment

nkarunatilaka

The Syndicate...
If my opponent Special Summons BLS - EOTB by removing 1 light and 1 dark, and i activate my Solemn Judgment; by negating the summon, does that mean that it was not correctly summoned to begin with.... meaning that my opponent cannot CoTH or Premature Burial it.

(Im pretty sure you cant.... as Solemn negated the summon... but mayb im wrong. lol.)

Just needed to clarify on this, as i believe i read something on this a while ago, but couldnt find anything on the Netrepâ„¢ Card Database or Yugioh-Card.com website

Correct, since the summon was negated, it now sits in the graveyard as a monster that was not properly summoned. Therefore it cannot be the target of "revival" cards such as Call, Premie, etc.

Well that clears up a lot. I had a feeling i was right. Neways, is there any "proof" of this on like the offical site? becuase i checked, and i have no way of proving this at the tourney that i attend. :( which is pretty gay.
well, im prob gonna have 2 deal with it. lol.

This falls under the mechanic that monsters that were not properly summoned are cannot be candidates for revival effects.

This is why Fusion monsters that were special summoned by metamorpohosis cannot be revived by revival cards.

Think of it this way too, If Bacon Lettuce Soldier was sent to the graveyard due to the effect of Delinquent Duo, you opponent wouldn't be able to use Call of the Haunted on it because it never hit the field properly in the first place, correct? Solemn Judgement is essentially doing the same thing. BLS never hit the field properly because SJ negated the summoning.

I was pulling up RONIN looking for a ruling with Monster Reborn or Premie, but they only mention NOMI monsters. Regardless, the mechanic applies.

Hope this helps!

[Re: Dark Necrofear] You only remove the 3 Fiend-Type monsters in your Graveyard from play when you Special Summon "Dark Necrofear" from your hand. If you successfully Special Summon it using this method, and then wish to use "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon it from the Graveyard, you do not have to remove 3 more Fiend-Type monsters from the Graveyard.

The key word being SUCCESSFULLY. If you negate the summon it was not successfully summoned.

This one is burned into my brain as I once used Solemn Judgment to negate Dark Necrofear. My opponent was laughing since it would just activate in the End Phase and take my beloved White Dragon anyway, well my dragon IMT'd and the next round my opponent tried to Call of the Haunted his Necrofear and I spent 20 minutes explaining why it wouldn't come back from the grave.

Looks like im gonna have to explain for like 20hours to this Vijay kid about the solemn thingy.... LOL

thanxs guys.

Ahh!!!
lol

they keep on saying that since the removal of 1 light monster and 1 dark monster was succesful, then its costs were met and even thou Solemn Judgment negated the summon, since its costs were met, it can be revived.

I was like, "no it cant!!!" :p

wow, they really need to post this on the Specific Card Rulings on YugiohCard .com or on Netrep Card Database. LOL :D

Some people just want it to work their way. I know a guy who in multiple games summons breaker and uses the token to destroy a level limit b. He tries to keep the breaker in attack position and I have to explain every time that LLAB affects breaker before it gets destroyed.

My suggestion to you is that if your tournament store has internet access, then you refer to this thread when you are at tourney and prove them wrong, along with showing them what is accepted and used in the bigger tournament world.

I say this because most of the people who post these answers are certified judges from UDE (like myself, thank you) and have a pretty good idea of what they are posting. A number of the members here either competed in or played in SJC Indy, which is a pretty high level of the tournament circuit. Can't say I did too well.....109th......5-4......

Anyways, back to the subject. If the summon was negated, then technically the monster was never summoned in the first place. If you used solemn judgement on zaborg, the opponent could not destroy a monster. And don't forget you can respond to Jinzo's summon with SJ. 'Nuff said.
