Blue-Eyes White Dragon LOB-EN001

Blue-Eyes White Dragon
Normal Monster (Dragon / LIGHT / 8 Stars / ATK 3000 / DEF 2500)

This legendary dragon is a powerful engine of destruction. Virtually invincible, very few have faced this awesome creature and lived to tell the tale.

One of the first and strongest of the signature monsters of the game. He has no effect, but simply is one of the strongest beatsticks you can pull out. Some may say that his usefulness has long since passed. However, there still will always be the joy of pulling out "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" on your opponent and have it wreak havok with whatever defenses they may have. Not to mention that he can trade or win cleanly almost every battle out there. Over the years, he has received a fair degree of support as well to not only make him easier to bring to the field, but to enhance some of his abilities. Plus as a normal monster, he's received some support in the last few sets too (as a way to make them more playable). Lastly, being a Dragon means he has plenty of support too.

Dragons may have their "Emperor" to represent one of the strongest in the game... but give me this "Ryuu Densetsu" anyday...

... plus, name me one other monster in the game that had an entire set named after it.

Wow, someone decided to review the Blue Eyes White Dragon. Personally, this card is my favorite monster. And here are the reasons:
1.)It is the most powerful NORMAL MONSTER in the entire game. No other normal monster exceeds it power, but if it did the BEWD would become pointless, just like THE FLASH would become a pointless character if he was not faster than SUPERMAN.
2.)The very first booster in Japan was based on this card.
Of course in the states Legend of the Blue Eyes White Dragon was the combination of Legend of the Blue Eyes White Dragon and Phantom God.
3.)Blue Eyes White Dragon is the very FIRST DUEL MONSTER, thus this is why it is LOB-EN001 for #1. And it is also listed as the first card in the Dark Duel Stories game.
4.)This card has massive support, such as Kaibaman, Kaiser Seahorse, Cost Down, Paladin of White Dragon, and my favorite Burst Stream of Destruction.
5.)BEWD decks, are easier to run since you basically need 3 copies of this card to run, and it makes it easier to draw.
6.)There is a big difference between a BEWD deck, and a dragon deck. Even though making a dragon deck is easier, I prefer a BEWD deck.
7.)Another reason this card is my favorite, JUST LOOK AT MY AVATAR.
8.) READ MY SIGNATURE!
9.)Blue Eyes White Dragon is GOD! Or as Akunadin said, the BEWD has the power the to become stronger the gods! In this case it means the God Cards!
10.)Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon and Shining Dragon, need I say more.
11.)This card is in a class deck of its own just like Dark Magician.
12.)Seto is the true Pharoah, all HAIL THE MIGHTY BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON!
13.)BEWD was the first monster I played.
14.)I have a deck based on this monster.

I know that some of my reasons sound crazy, but I am a Blue Eyes fanatic. If I were a duelist who can have the BEWD jet, and the Millenium Rod (thus declaring me Pharoah) for my last living days on Earth I would die a very happy man!

What Konami/UDE did to dissapoint me about BEWD?
1.)The first and most obvious reason: They have not printed BEUD, totally not fair. I have actually stop dueling due to the fact that they have been behind promos, and that we will probably never get close to the Japanese game which I think would make the game more competitive.

2.)Not many people noticed this, but the 2002 BEWD tin card BPT-003 was a LIMITED EDITION CARD. This is because it said LIMITED EDITION on it. Now you're probably wondering what dissapointed me. Well, the 2004 tin for the BEWD had the artwork of the FIRST PRINT BEWD from the DDS GAME and on the anime. Unfortunately, to my great suprise, the 2004 BEWD was the same artwork as the 2003 tin. This greatly upset me because, I was expecting the artwork on the tin to correspond with the tin promo just as it had for all the others but unfortunately it did not.

On a final note:
The BEWD for the Shonen Jump Promo, and Kaiba the Revenge/Dark Beginnings are actually the same the only difference the Shonen Jump Promo has the Planet EARTH BACKGROUND, while the other one has background of THE ANCIENT TABLET depicting the battle of Pharoah Atem, and the person who would take his place PRIEST SETO.
I hope that one day, that the original BEWD artwork print is reprinted so that I may play it. It would pointless to play the Dark Duel Stories version since it has so much collectable value.
I remember reading somewhere, that the BEWD was Kazuki Takahashi's favorite monster. I believe I read in an interview about Kazuki Takahashi, but I don't remember where.
The BEWD must be respected and treated with care. It is not a useless monster, its power and its grace are SUPREMELY STRONG. With a good enough balance of a BEWD DECK, it should be able easily crush monsters like the Creator, Sacred Pheonix, Horus, and even Antique Gear Golem either by destroying it, or destroying the monsters its needs for sacrifice.
I remember many duels getting BEWD around my second turn, and usually ending the duel.
Now remember to take good care of your BEWD's, or they may choose to leave you for another more WORTHY MASTER!

ALL HAIL THE BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON!

I used to love this card, and the SDK version is one of my favourite card designs.

However, I am now one of those people who say that BEWD's time is up. There is no playable reason to play a two-tribute effectless waste of space. If you need something purely for power, BLS or Great Maju Garzett are more than adequate.

Lord of D is too slow, kaibaman unpractical, so the only real support cards this card has is Streaming Destruction and Kaiser Sea Horse. Hardly deck building.

I'd say this card has earned it's retirement, let is rest in peace.

Pharoah's Servant... Labyrinth of Nightmare(though its a trap card)... but those were made after the set... i guess that doesnt count...

well, in japan, Invader of Darkness... yeah... ^_^ anyway:

This card was great when it came out because of the ATK power. Later, though, when we were introduced to effect monsters that were tributes AND had good effects (it was a revolution), he lost his luster a bit. Introduce Paladin of White Dragon. Ok, a bit better. Introduce Legacy of Darkness, BESD, BEUD, and Burst Stream, and Kaibaman... hmm... a bit better. but i still have to agree with Xeno.

Rating: (in BEWD deck)
4/5

Art:
which one?
Shonen Jump One - 5/5
Original One - 4/5
One thats biting its tail off - 1/5

I don't see this card as very playable anymore. There is support out there if you wanna get really rentsy and even build a Seto Kaiba themed deck. But there just isn't enough to make it competitive.

The release of one card could possibly change my mind, but "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" seems like just a fantasy.

I do love the art on the JMP promo version though. :D

This is still one of the best cards. I know few of you here posted other cards that are better, and there are, but lets face it, for a normal monster, nothing can top the original king of the hill. I would also like to mention one other original power house: Summoned Skull. Again a normal monster, and I know there are other one tribute monsters out there that have nifty effects, but for a one tribute monster, 2500 ATK is pretty good. If we want to start pointing fingers at useless cards, lets turn it to Dark Magician. Two tribute for 2500 ATK. I don't think so. Anyway, there's my 10 cents cos my 2 cents was free.

In my opinion, like I said, if you are after power Great Maju Garzett let's you easily get a 3000+ atk monster for just one tribute. There is no justification for running Summoned Skull (even in a Fiend deck, End of Anubis and Hades PWN Summoned SKull) or BEWD's.

whoa, whoa, red flag here... ::does double take:: Dark Magician?? No. Dark Magician has TONS more support than BEWD ever will. You could easily build a very competetive Dark Magician deck and win with it at tourneys. Dark Magician has Dark Magic Attack, Thousand Knives, Dark Paladin, Dark Flare Knight, Dark Magician Girl, Dark Magician of Chaos, Skilled Dark Magician, Dimension Magic (in Japan), Spellcaster/DARK support, and the list can continue.

Blue Eyes, however, has Paladin of White Dragon... Burst Stream of Destruction... Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, which we cannot use, since Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon is only in Japan. Dragon and LIGHT support... Kaibaman... (ha) That's about where the list stops.

You know what Blue-Eyes needs? A hottie monster. Then people would use it. Like, Dark Magician has Dark Magician Girl and Injection Fairy Lily on his side, but poor Blue-Eyes has no hotties.

So maybe Blue-Eyes is a good card, and 3000 ATK is great. Getting a 3000 ATK monster can easily give your opponent a hard time for a while. BESD is a LOT better, but we obviously cannot use it because Shuiesha is mean to us. But Dark Magician is a good card too, only because of the tons of support cards that we have for it, and more on the way. Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes are easily the most popular monsters in the game, only because of the show. But the fact remains that Blue-Eyes needs more support, a hottie, and BEUD...

Those that insult the BEWD haven't faced a true dedicated deck around it...which is the only place it should be used.

I'd currently place Dark Magician far behind BEWD in terms of playability...of the support cards out in the US, only Skilled Dark Magician, Dark Magician of Chaos, and Dark Magic Attack are good enough to be competative. This will stay the same until we get Dimension Magic or another great Spellcaster/DM card. And I probably wouldn't call DMoC a true "support card" as no one plays "Dedication through Light and Darkness."

Blue Eyes has so many different Special Summons that it's scary...Kaibaman is easy to search, Paladin gets it easily from the deck and can also be a terrific monster on it's own, King Dragun protects it from anything targeting and allows free Sp. Summons.

In addition, the Burst Stream is better than Dark Magic Attack, just as Raigeki was better than Feather Duster.

Until Dimension Magic sees release, BEWD Dedicated Decks> DM Dedicated Decks.

As for Maju Garzett, there's a good reason that it doesn't see much play at all- It's incredibly unstable. It's useless if it leaves the field, save for Chaos/Necro food. In addition, the commonly-played position Shifters like Enemy Controller and Book of Moon both own it. Blue Eyes has a DEF of 2500, meaning it's going to be tough to kill, regardless of position. It can also serve as Chaos food, so a BEWD/Chaos deck isn't really that difficult to consider at ALL.

same for those who insult Dark Magician

In addition, the Burst Stream is better than Dark Magic Attack, just as Raigeki was better than Feather Duster.

which perfectly explains why Dark Magic Attack usually has a higher price than Burst Stream (at card shops), and why Dark Magic Attack is an ultra rare in DR2, and why Burst Stream is a Super Rare.

Blue Eyes has a DEF of 2500, meaning it's going to be tough to kill, regardless of position.

Two words: Smashing Ground.

It can also serve as Chaos food, so a BEWD/Chaos deck isn't really that difficult to consider at ALL.

Hey, guess what? Dark Magician is Chaos Food as well! Isnt that neat? And ive seen quite a few Chaos/Dark Magician decks too. And didnt you just say that BEWD only belongs in a true BEWD deck??

(NOTE: Just IMO stuff. Please take no offense to my immense sarcasm and matter-of-fact tone)

As far as BEWD goes, it will only be viable for serious tournament play once they release a card that says:

This card cannot be activated unless you have a face up Blue Eyes White Dragon on the field. You win the Match.

This goes for all 2 tribute monsters with no effect.

In CASUAL play on the other hand, you can build successful decks around both BEWD and Dark Magician. Just save them for the CASUAL matches.
Along with your Obelisk The Tormentor and your Seal of Oricalchos.

I'm not intending to insult Dark Magician...I run a DM deck as well, and I'm just saying that in my experience in the US game, the BEWD deck does better than the DM deck.

Price means nothing in terms of playability...why do you think a Tri-Horned Dragon is more valuable than a Magical Scientist or a Waboku? Rarity and demand play more into price than how good a card is.

Smashing Ground is just as bad against DM as it is against BEWD. Your odds of having another face-up monster with 2100 DEF or more in a DM-based deck are slim at best.

BEWD does only belong in it's own deck...that doesn't mean that's the only place people will play it. Honestly, it's not difficult to toss BLS into a BEWD deck, since the BEWDs, Paladins, and Kaibamen are LIGHTs, and Breaker/Sangan/Fusilier (for Dragun Morph) are DARKs, there's already a balance. The same can't be said of Dark Magician, who's only real LIGHT-type friends are Magician of Faith and Magical Merchant (which rarely sees play in DM decks).

I'm not putting down the DM...if/when we do get Dimension Magic, I think it's quite possible that we'll start seeing more DM decks do well at Regionals.

Like CG said, same for BEDW.

That's just your opinion, which you're entilted to.

Dark Magician is ridiculously easier to summon than BEWD. BEWD needs a Ritual monster for God's sake, we all know how unreliable those are.

And what about Diffusion Wave Motion?

And besides, destroying s/ts is just as important as destroying monsters nowadays.

There are only 2 staple cards that return monster from the graveyard anyway (3 if you include Shallow Grave). Most monster are useless once they hit the graveyard.

And besides, we have Monster Reincarnation and Feather of the Phoenix now.

No doubt you have some online UDE league reference to back that up?

So what you're saying is, it's ok for BEWD decks to use non-themed Dark Monster like Breaker and Sangan, but it's not ok for DM decks to use non-themed light monsters?

What a load of nonsense. I've seen awesome DM decks use BLS, 2 x Magician of Faith, 1 x Blade Knight and DDWL. And that's not even mentioning decks that add Dark Hex to summon Mirage Knight.

Not to mention Dark Paladin decks with 2 x Buster, 2 x DM, 3 x Skilled Dark and 3 x Skilled White, which takes me to another point of "today's metagame" you love so much.

DM + Polymerization -> Lethal Weapon
BEDW + Polymerization -> Nothing.

:standing ovation:
I'm gonna have to go with Xeno on this one; as of now, a well constructed DM deck is much more tournament worthy than a BEWD deck, even without Dimension Magic and Curtain of Black Magic.

But can we all agree that for serious play, both cards are subpar at best?

The Blue Eyes White Dragon has one of best history in the game, since with all the different type of decks that could use one, he has great advantage over other monsters, since he is not affected by Skill Drain, he can be brought faster to the field with Kaibaman and Kaiser Sea Horse, among other cards, he is the staple of the light/Dragon(?) decks in brute force. Also my personal favorite, although he is getting close to retirement these days, but he is fighting to the end, that's for sure!
