Book of Life vs Call of the Haunted

There are multiple monsters in both player's graveyards and my opponent activates Book of Life to summon a zombie monster from his graveyard and chooses to remove one of my monsters, I chain Call of the Haunted to the monster that he chooses to remove. Does the chain resolve like Monster Reborn's rulings where the effect of my opponent's Book of Life fizzles or does he get to keep his zombie monster from his graveyard without removing my selected monster from the graveyard? Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that you don't chose the selection for "Book of Life" until the resolution of it (however there still has to be at least one monster in your opponent's graveyard to activate it in the first place).

Ok the Ruling on this is that Book of Life works only as long as there is a monster card in your graveyard, so even if you Call the card he selects, if there is another he can choose to remove it instead.

Now if there is no other monster card in your graveyard then they cannot special summon the Zombie monster and the Book of Life's effect would be negated.

Last time I heard about BOL rulings was long ago but I don`t think they have changed.
BOL can be activated even if your opponent doesn`t have any monster in his graveyard. the monsters are selected at the time of activation so you can chain with cards like dissapear or COTH.

The ruling right now is that your opponent does need a monster in their graveyard in order for you to activate "Book of Life".

the only special circumstances which the Book of Life cannot be activated or have it's effect changed is when:

1) You cannot activate "Book of Life" if there is no monster in the Graveyard to remove from play.

2) You cannot activate "Book of Life" if your opponent controls "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer".

3) If you activate "Book of Life" and your opponent chains "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer", you still get to Special Summon 1 Zombie with Book of Life's effect (but do not remove 1 monster from your opponent's Graveyard).

Hmm, though I appreciate your replies, I'm still not sure what the final outcome is. I've read through the rulings, searched other websites to see if they've discussed this before, and re-read the text on Book of Life and the rulings that are closely related to it (like Monster Reborn vs Call of the Haunted).

I still remember a ruling that stated you can only activate BoL when there's a Zombie in your grave and at least one monster in your opponents grave.
If one of the both targets get removed before BoL resolves, the other target is affected as USUAL.

This also makes a lot of sense with the current rules! ;)

They state you have to have the two monsters at activation and that the Zombie's still special summoned if you aren't able to remove a monster in your opponents grave. I don't think it's very important HOW your opponent prevents you from removing a monster in his grave (Kycoo or a chained Call targeting the chosen monster), the bottom line is that your Zombie's still summoned if it is not possible to remove an opponents monster at resolution of the BoL!
