Brainstorming 'WABOKU'

Cardinal

New Member
This is one hard card to figure out, cos its so ***ue.
Is there anyone than knows the full ruling on it?

EXAMPLE1: Can you flip it, if its down, instead of picking it up when Giant Trunate is played against you?

EXAMPLE2: Can you flip it if its down, when your opponent uses Harpies Feather Duster or Heavy Storm?

EXAMPLE3: Can you flip it at anytime, during 'Your go' to free up a Spell/Trap Zone, to enable you to lay another card?.

Please help us with this one.

Thanks.

Well, like any Normal Trap Card, it's a Spell Speed 2, as long as it's been set for one turn, you can activate it at any time, excluding the Damage Step.

What your describing is chaining to Giant Trunade and Harpie's Feather Duster, and that, of course, is the nature of how the game works. If you chain Waboku to either of those cards, resolve the chain as you would any other.

In Waboku's case, yes, you can activate it just to free up a Spell/Trap Zone. Even if your not needing the effect this turn. But that's only because Waboku is setting up a state where you'll take no Battle Damage this turn, and not doing something specifically. If it were a Trap Card that was doing something specifically, or had specific timing (Sakuretsu Armor, Torrential Tribute) as to when it could be activated, then you'd be limited to when and where you could activate it.

I would suggest you look over the Basic Gameplay section here at: http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/yugioh/en/gameplay/faqs/default.aspx

The basic mechanics are explained there, and are fundamental in understanding when and why you can do certain things, like chaining Waboku.

Please clarify waboku 'not in damage step'?

Waboku 'not in damage step'

Does this mean not being able to flip it in 'my' Battle phase?
Or
As we where playing it, that you could flip it to prevent attack.

EXAMPLE: If the opponent was attacking with 2 monsters and you wanted the first one to attack ,but stop the second?.

Well, just as it said. You cannot activate Waboku once you enter the Damage Step.

You can still activate it in the Battle Step (before entering the Damage Step).

Further, Waboku does not prevent attacks from being declared. I could still attack with a D.D. Warrior Lady or Neo-Spacian Ground Mole to remove your monster even if you would take no battle damage.

waboku is a fun card, VERY chainable on either players turn, so it has the possibility to be used offensively and defensively...
defense example could be; respond/chain to heavy storm, dust tornado , attack declaration, effect of demise, etc, even activate in standby phase so frog can return...
offensive example would be in response to your hydrgeddon attacking an opponents banisher - both are 1600 atk so banisher is destroyed and hydro is not , allowing you to special summon another hydrogeddon and continue battle phase....

Like DJ said, it would probably be helpful for you to read the basic rulebook. It will define the phases and chaining and all those other mechanics in the game, and after reading I am sure you will understand how and when you can use Waboku.

And how did vague get the first 3 letters censored? That is strange.

EDIT: I see. You used a f instead of a v. Now I see why it censored it.

maybe some one would be kind enough to link that battle phase breakdown again - cardinal might find it of interest....
