CDIP-EN015: Snipe Hunter

Another monster. And another card that's one of the few decently good cards in this deck.

Snipe Hunter

Effect Monster

Dark / Fiend / level 4

1500ATK / 600DEF

Discard 1 card from your hand. Select 1 card on the field and roll a six-sided die. If the results is not a 1 or 6, destroy the selected card.

Okay, the stats. It's a level 4 that's 1500ATK plus Dark. Gee, that means it's REALLY easy to search. You got Tomato and Sangan to work with. And it's a Fiend so you can use Dark Necrofear on it. Pretty good start. It's DEF is only 600, but that's not too important in this case.

Now it's effect. You discard a card to attempt to destroy a card on the field. ANY card BTW, it can be on the foe's field, or even your OWN field. (depends on the combo your trying to pull of course) And the best part is, there's no restrictions of how many times you activate it. Of course, there IS a restriction that you have to discard by a COST. (No Goldd discard please.) So you can activate as much as cards in your hand. And thank GOD that Night Assailant is 1x per deck and Sinister Serpent is banned. (Think of this with 2x Night Assailant per deck... it's garentees 100% of the foe's field wipe no matter what...) But still, with 1x Treeborn Frog and 1x Night Assailant to work with, you got some decent discards to trash to activate this effect.

Now I know what your saying, it's NOT garenteed. But still 66% is very high rate. And if you got nothing but dead cards in your hand. (Cards that's totally useless at the moment) well, you pretty much turned all of them into potental MST/Smashing/NoC cards. That's GOOD even IF you fail. Seriously, I've seen this card being played, and getting a 1 or a 6 is pretty darn rare. It's kinda sad to see my foe discard 3 cards to wipe out all of my field in one turn. It's pretty darn scary. I consider this card the weaker stat version of Blowback. But if there's a positive part of it, Blowback effect is only 1 shot each of your main phase, but Snipe Hunter can activate as much as you want as long as you got the discards for it. And seriously, there are some cards that's just meant to just hit the graveyard that's not Dark World. (Oh say D Hero Dasher for example.) And while Blowback is a 1 tribute monster, this is no tribute monster that can be searched by Sangan and Tomato. That's alot of goodness. Seriously, even IF it's a chance by discard, your foe WILL try to get rid of this as quickly as possible if you have alot of cards in your hand.

Just imagine this. The foe summons Snipe Hunter. Discards till it wipes the foe field clean with no cards on the foe's field. Finally, it discards another card to destroy itself of Snipe Hunter... now they play Last Will for Cyber-Stein... Oh yeah....

CC material.... probably not. But this deck can fit into ALOT of decks. Fiend Decks, decks that have alot of discards needed, etc. etc. etc. (And it was probably the best card to use when you went to pre-release sealed-pack tournament using only CDIP cards.) We'll probably won't see play in SJC unless it's a deck that can use it's full potential. (i.e. not Monarch/Hydrogeddon/etc. deck) But we might see some rogue darkhorse decks that will use this even if the dice roll may fail on them.

Final thing. If you summon Snipe Hunter during your Main Phase, the first time you discard to activate it's effect, you CAN call priority. (Just in case your foe Ring of Destruction/BTH/Torrential immediately) But on your 2nd or 3rd discard, there is no priority.

I give this card a

7.5 out of 10

Fun card. And a pretty cool version of "weaker Blowback".

This is not a "weaker" Blowback Dragon. If anything, its a diluted version of Tribe-Infecting Virus and Blowback Dragon "combined".

With Blowback, you get one chance per turn to destroy any card on the field. With Tribe, you get as many chances as you have cards in your hand, to take out a face-up monster.

Tribe's weakness was that he could target only face-up, and if the card was flipped face-down, it was spared. Snipe Hunter doesnt care about face-up or face-down, or if it is even a monster for that fact, and that is where the "Blowback-like" effect comes in.

To me, its a much better effect, although the cost is something that should be used sparingly.

Heh, I had one out in a triple duel the other day, my team and I got rid of the entire opponents' side of the field through discarding all kinds of things from our larges hands combined, probably from the Cyber Jars that were flipped about 5 times over the course of the game XD

Team Duels are probably not the best way to describe the use of Snipe Hunter's effect since there are no "legal" rules defining how to play.

Especially if you have a Morphing Jar on the field, you get 5 more chances at clearing the field. Not to mention Skelengel, Denokchi, or even Jar of Greed. Makes it a little more interesting.

Stein just got another card for the OTK. Summon this and play Last Will. If your opponent set 2 cards then use the effect to destroy them and then target itself. Summon Stein and use his effect. Throw in a Limiter or Cyber Dragon for your last card and you have game. Now this all depends on luck but I don't see it being impossible.
