CDIP-EN038: Flash of the Forbidden Spell

Wow, I'm doing ALOT of CDIP. Maybe because I'm trying to tell people cards that are somewhat "worth" in this pile of stupid packs.

Today is another non-monster review. So this is the effect.

----------

Flash of the Forbidden Spell

Activate only when all of your opponent's Monster Card Zones are occupied by monsters. Destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field.

--------

Hmm, did I just read that correctly, the last line says, "Destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field." Did I read that right or does this sounds like RAIGEKI here?! Wow, a card effect that have one of the most broken cards in YGO. There HAVE to be a negative factor here. And well, although it have no negative factor, it DOES have an activation requirement.

The requirement is that all of your foe's monster zone have to be filled. That means five monsters have to be in your foe's field. Now, when your foe have 5 monsters on their field, it usually means your getting your ass kicked, and it's probably too late to activate this card. But there are other ways to pull this effect more quickly.

One common way is your foe to activate Scapegoat. They got 4 stupid weenies on their field so when they get one more monster, that's 5. Another way is to use Ojama Trio to force your foe to gain 3 stupid monsters. Then you just wait till they get 2 more monsters. And the fact that Ojama Trio tokens will do 900LP total damage when destroyed is a bonus. Another silly way is to chance your luck and use Destiny Hero Diamond Dude. That guy just loves to ignore all pesky conditions, and running Flash Forbidden is alot safer then say Des Croaking/Ojama Delta Hurricane/etc. (Although those cards have better effect.)

Some other umcommon ways is to make your foe special summon as well. Stuff like Spear Cretin, The Shallow Grave, Gilasaurus, etc.

It'll be rare for your foe to have all 5 effect monsters flooded in their field unless they discarded a ton of Dark World Monster or something like Hydrogeddon, but still, with players who wants to mass summon as much as possible, it's somewhat easy to make your foe have 5 monsters as long as you support them as well. But still, this card is defiantely nowhere near splashable.

-------------
In the end, I give this card a

6.5 out of 10

It needs a dedicated deck. Along with the fact that just to destroy like 1 or 2 of your foe's key monster, you have to flood your foe's field to do so, is a bit of annoyance and can definately backfire against you if you don't play correctly.

Ojama Trio would be the surest route. Mix that with Shien's Spy and some fun cards like Ameba, and you can Burn them before attacking.

This card definately requires a certain type of deck, but it could be a lot of fun...

This card is really a waste, even if it has the potential to be "Raigeki-like".

How many times is your opponent going to over extend their field without using Heavy Storm first? There is no way Im going to have 3 or 4 monsters on the field, and summon while I have advantage, and you have a face-down, ESPECIALLY if it has been the same one for more than a couple of turns!!

So, now the question is, are cards like Ojama Trio really worth it? Now you have to wait for your opponent to have 2 monsters, which means you need 2 uesless Traps on the field, which end up sitting forever while your opponent clears away your Sakuretsu Armor's and your other defensive cards.

It's a completely different strategy. Lot's of us run Ojama Trio for the purpose of clogging up their field. But this gives it a different objective. Much different from anything we've done before. There is potential in this card, but not if your sticking to same old bland strategies.

Not using Ojama Trio. Its not worth it. You will only be destroying 2 of their cards and 3 Ojama Tokens. That's not very huge at all, and you can do that with Mirror Force a lot earlier. So now you're saying you will devote at least 3 Ojama Trio Cards to your Deck and this silly card to do 900 damage and remove 2 of their monsters.

This takes even longer to set up than Spatial Collapse and Ojama Trio.

It's not that hard to clog the field. I used to do it all the time. Your also presuming the sole purpose of a deck running Flash of the Forbidden Spell is to use Flash of the Forbidden Spell. There's potential to do a exchange build with Shien's Spy and Mystic Box that could potential keep cycling cards to your opponent, to their disadvantage. I suspect we'll see it, just not often.

Its definately worth a try. I mean look how many rush decks there are right now. Lots and lots and lots. Ive seen many many people fill up their field with monsters without a care in the world. While I dont think flash will be a main decker but by god it would help out in a side deck when ya meet such decks.

Don't get me wrong. It will definitely be great when it works, just like I'm sure if someone can actually get Sorcerer of Dark Magic on the field, it would work great also. But sometimes, the pay off only comes through carelessness of the opponent, and not because it is a solid strategy.

There is just no way I am going to Swarm the field (unless I am using Hydrogeddon), when I have clear advantage of 3 already summoned monsters, unless I have already cleared their backfield, and they haven't activated Threatening Roar or Waboku. That's just asking for a Torrential Tribute, and then you won't need Flash.

Plus, depending on when you activate Ojama Trio, they could still have a potential summon after the monsters are destroyed, like Cyber Dragon.

I just don't see it making much head way, unless they are going to bring back the ultimate card in swarming next Ban List...... :-:
