Changing battle position questions

1) First question:
Situations:
I am the turn player.
I have a Gemini Elf previously summoned on my last turn.
My opponent has a Kaiser Sea Horse in attack mode and a f/d Magic Cylinder.
I know my opponent has a BEWD on his hand.

Play:
Me: On my battle phase, I declare an attack from my Gemini Elf to my opp's Kaiser Sea Horse.
Opp: Respond with Magic Cylinder.
Me: Did not chain.
Opp: Did not chain.

Resolution: The attack of my Gemini Elf is negated, and I took 1900 damage on my life point.

Question:
On my Main Phase 2, can I change Gemini's battle position to defense mode since her attack were negated? I am assuming negate means Gemini did not attack, so I am allowed to change her battle position.

2) Second question:
If I activate Book of Taiyou on my f/d Night Assailant and use his effect, can I manually change his battle position to defense mode? I know I am allowed to manually change my monster's position once per turn.

Just because an attack is negated does not mean that monsters can change their position. The Gemini Elf tried to attack. It failed to get off the ground, but it still tried and thus can't attack.

For the second question, you may only manually change the position of a monster if its position has not already been changed (either manually or by effect).
