Chemistry 101 - Mineral Rock Segments
By FallenAngel
The Earth, younger than the universe, but older than the stars, the soil we step on and the rocks we shamelessly bypass. In the older days of Yu-Gi-Oh; when kids where stuffing three Blue Eyes White Dragons in there decks along with three Dark Magicians, rock monsters were no ware to be found.
It was only until the release of the video game Duelist of the Roses and Stairway to the Destined Duel, when The Magnet Warriors and Valkyrion showed up, that rocks were remotely glanced at. Gamma, Beta, and Alpha the Magnet Warriors, three brothers separated are quite useless one might say; but together they form a creature of mass potential.
Valkyrion the Magna Warrior is much like our friend Water Dragon; high attack power, and has the possibility to get his three combatant counter parts back to the field. The Magna Warrior is a great monster that has been underestimated for quite some time now, but not anymore.
In the release of The Lost Millennium, rocks were given the support they deserve. One of the main cards that most saw was Megarock Dragon. Combined with the likeliness of the rock monsters this creature can be one of the most devastating beings in the game. With an attack and defense power of ? Megarock Dragon cannot be searched out, leaving you to have to draw it with luck or skill.
Dimension Fusion gives this monster countless deck possibilities. Another supporter to the rock monsters is a trap card called Rock Bombardment. Sending a rock monster from your deck to the grave; yes it sounds crazy but that's fodder for Megarock and that is the goal of his ability. Another magic card is Fault Zone, being introduced to the OCG just this holiday by the seventh structure deck; combining cards with this include, Stone Statue of the Aztecs, Staunch Defender, and even Cross Counter.
There are countless numbers of monsters that Megarock Dragon can combo with, using cards like Great Maju Da Eiza is one of them, right after you summon your Megarock Dragon you can summon Great Maju Da Eiza to get that extra boost of power. Shadow of Infinity, a set to be released in later February, is opening up the vision for rock monsters as well, with a card named Sandmoth. When Sandmoth is destroyed by an effect other than battle, and it is in defense mode, it gets special summoned back to the field with its attack at 2000. Your opponent will now be afraid to use Dark Hole or Torrential Tribute, this card is a great monster for rock decks. Now since rock monsters are key in the grave using them throughout your deck is good. With bouncing cards like Legendary Jujitsu Master, hand destruction cards like Morphing Jar, and finally using old washed up cards like the Magnet Warriors and Valkyrion the Magna Warrior, Megarock Dragon is a staple in any rock deck.
So the next time you are stepping across the soil, or bypassing that rock, think to yourself, what a wonderful place I am living on.
