Copycat vs King Tiger Wanghu

Copycat (Light)
*
[Spellcaster/Effect]
When this card is either Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or Special Summoned, this monster's attack/defense strengths become the original attack/defense points of 1 of your opponent's monsters.
ATK/ 0 DEF/ 0

There is no official text that i can find or rulings (haven't checked a JPN site yet).

However, if i were to take a guess, based on what i've seen of it in the games, Copycat's effect triggers when it is successfully summoned.

So, it would be 0/0 at the time when King Tiger's effect would trigger, the 2 effects would be chained together (in an order dependant on priority), and Copycat would be destroyed.

Eg.

[Event] Copycat is successfully summoned:

{Summon Response Chain]
*Both effects trigger at the same time

[Chain Link 1] Copycat (1 Opponent's monster is targeted)
[Chain Link 2] King Tiger Wanghu

...of course, purely a guess.

That does make a lot of sense, novastar and I thank you for your input. I would like to get some opinions from upper level judges too however, so for reference, here is Copycat.

see first post.

Off-topic... Who else thinks America is way behind on promos?

The problem with answering rulings questions about OCG cards is issues with translations. Based off the text you just posted, I would say that the ATK/DEF of "Copycat" would be set before the effect of "King Tiger Wanghu" would activate. So, if you choose the 'right' monster, then "Copycat" would live. But then again, that's based off the translation text you provided.

Some of us have access to the JERP, and/or the Konami Japan rulings. Most of us don't...lol. That's where the ruling will come from. It will tell us if the effect of "Copycat" is a trigger, or continuous.

Also, just because somebody doesn't put their Judge Level in their signature doesn't mean they aren't a high level Judge. You'll find quite a few people on this site are Level 2 or higher.

[edit]Oh..and YES, we are WAAAAAAAY behind on Promos...lol.

It sounds as if once summoned, Copycat needs to target a monster to get it's effect....if King Tiger Wanghu is face up on the field it's effect is going to destroy the Copycat before it can name it's target.....judging from the text given anyway.

Seems like your basic run of the mill Summon Trigger that targets, much like Zaborg.

So they would trigger together, but the target for Copycat would be chosen at activation, before it's destroyed by King Tiger. If it is indeed Continuous, then King Tiger would not trigger at all (if a monster with more than 1400 ATK is chosen).

But who knows, i'll check the JERP.

I know that judges don't have to say that they are judges in their sig or whatever. I should've worded better that I just want more opinions from judges.
Ironically, you've gotten opions from at leat three Level 3s that I know of, but they don't all agree with each other. :cog_roll Don't ya just love Yu-Gi-Oh?

Since it's all speculation because we don't have an English card, just throw the two cards in decks in "Ultimate Masters" GBA game and see how the computer plays it.

Personally, I agree with John Danker. It's Summoned at 0 ATK, so "King Tiger Wanghu" should destroy it right off the bat.

I just tried it online and it played the way I figured it would.

Copycat is summoned, it's effect activates and it targets one card to copy the ATK/DEF values. King Tiger's effect activates and is Chain Link 2. The chain resolves and Copycat is destroyed before its effect can resolve.

Guess it does kind of follow what novastar said.

On a side note, are you going to be at the Pre-Release this weekend??

Yes, I will be working. How about you?
Wouldnt miss it. I am looking forward to this set. I also noticed on her website, that Laurel is holding a Sneak Peek at Dreamwizards on Sunday. She hasnt mentioned anything about it, so I dont know how large she expects it to be.
