Crystal Beasts discussion

A friend of mine built himself a Crystal Beast deck and, after playing with and against the deck, I have to say I am most impressed by its power compared to the amount of tweaking the deck had before it was complete (90% crystal beast deck)

So far we have 2 Decks that Crystal Beast can made into, Rainbow City deck or Crystal Abundance OTK deck.

I just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on which deck, if any, has the potential to be made into a competitive deck.

I personally think that the Rainbow City deck is better overall because the OTK version has a rather high tendency to get dead draws (correct me if I am wrong), and that the monsters that supports the Crystal Abundance card (such as Amethyst cat/Rescue Cat combo) doesnt seem strong enough to give the OTK. Of course it has a strong potential because once you activate Crystal Abundance, there is very little your opponent can do before he gets hit massively.

Rainbow City I personally prefer because it gives a more steady field control, like inbuilt indestructibility, a built in Magic Jammer, 7 Tools of the Bandit, Half damage, Crystal Beacon and jar of greed effect. This would make the deck less susceptible to mass S/T destruction (Like Spell Purification, and you can quite easily tech against Cyber Prima and Mobius). Also this version has quite a large potential to put in unusual and less used cards such as Hamon, the Lord of Striking Thunder or Needle Ceiling that could help you keep the field clear for either Crystal Abundance Tech card or Carbuncle OTK. But then there is the problem of not drawing Rainbow city...

Any suggestion? I would love to hear what other cards that would suit either deck (the more unusual, the better :D)

i personally like the controll version with the splash of otk, i mean you controll out till you know you have game... stein was by no means fast.... people quickly adjusted to the speed of demise.

Hamon is a cool win condition, but you nuke 3 of your beasts to do it....

by the way there are 2 cards that search for city, the trap card last resort or something like that, and Terraforming which im fond of.

How do you fare against Exodia decks?

My brother made an Exodia deck recently, and I haven't been able to beat him as of yet with my Crystal Beast deck. Sure, Abundance and Ancient City are great... But, both are completely helpless to the wrath of Exodia.

Crystal Abundance is way too hard to get out against an Exodia deck, which hardly relies on battle damage to pummel the enemy. Even if you manage to get it out, Crystal Abundance tends to destroy Sangans and Emissary of the Afterlife way too often, causing the enemy to win.

Ancient City's effects are also helpless:
1. Exodia decks won't even bother destroying a spell or trap if they know it's a Crystal Beast deck.
2. Battle damage = worthless.
3. They use monster effects, not spell or trap.
4. Draw more, deck out faster.
5. Even if you get enough offense out, it's still too weak to take out the defenses of Mystic Tomato chain and The Creator.

Crystal Abundance doesn't "destroy" anything, it just "sends", but the end result is the same: Emissary and Sangan will mess you up.

Rainbow Ruin control or just Crystal Beast beatdown are considered better. The prob with Crystal Abundance OTK is that you really can't run ANY traps. If you have a trap face-down, and your foe throws down Jinzo or Royal Decree, might as well scoop.

IMO, a Rainbow Ruin control with like 1x teched Crystal Abundance is better IMO.

In Japan, it's about Abundance OTK, but they got cards like Summon Priest and Rainbow Dragon. Really, Summon Priest is like Snipe Hunter for Crystal Beast decks, turning "dead" Spell cards into free Crystal Beast special summons.

Jinzo, maybe (there are ways around him too); But Royal Decree, no problem- just activate the trap and let it get negated. Boom, free space! Abundance your Crystals to your heart's content!

Hmm...seeing as how the Crystal Beasts are already a force to be reckoned with (I have a Crystal Beast deck myself), how much more powerful will they be once Tactical Evolution comes out? Rainbow Dragon is a BEAST. (Not type-wise) It has two different effects, and here it is simply:
  • One effect is basically Winged Dragon of Ra.
  • The other effect is basically Fiber Jar.
Yea.

Neither effect you can use on the turn it's summoned, plus you are forced to run all the weaker Crystal Beasts in order to get him out on the field. Nothing like a Snatch Steal, Brain Control, Fissure, Smashing Ground, etc. to ruin that plan.

To add insult to the injury, Rainbow Dragon, despite needing all that kind of Crystal Beast monsters, it does NOT count towards ANY of the Crystal Beast. It does not go into S/T zone when destroyed, it does not count as a crystal beast monster so you cannot use Blessing or Promise, etc.

Even Great Shogun Shien is better supported than Rainbow Dragon...
