Curse of Fiend

Curse of Fiend
Normal Spell
Changes the battle positions of all Attack Position monsters on the field to Defense Position and vice-versa. These positions cannot be changed during the turn this card is activated except by the effect of a Spell, Trap or Effect Monster Card. You can activate this card only during your Standby Phase.

There are two problems I have with this card:

1) Can it make a face down defence monster go into face down attack position?

2) If it is a Normal Spell card, how come it can be used during your standby phase?

1) I don't think it would, considering face down attack position monsters aren't a "normal" position for the game. I know there aren't any published rulings for this card through RONIN, so I'm basing this more off of what I think the cards intention is for.

2) The reason it is a Spell Speed 1 that can be activated during your standby phase is because it has the provision within itself to allow it to do so. Remeber, cards can "break the" normal mechanics of the game if it has the ability to do so within it.

Hope this helps.

I doubt that it was supposed to be a 'break the mechanics' type of card. I personally think that there was a translation or printing error somewhere.

That plus how rare it is since I think I have only seen one in my entire yugioh lifetime.

Just confirming (since mortals was not positive ;)), It does not affect face down monsters and he is correct that it allows itself to break the rules. ALL CCGs have one caveat to their rules in common, and that is that a card's text can break any of the current rules. [;->

Oops, I should have refresed before posting 8^D

Wow, in an unexpected insight, I received a response A) Fast, and B) with a slightly different outcome:

Answer:

1. A face-down Defense Position monster is turned to face-up Attack Position by "Curse of Fiend's" effect. At that time, any Flip Effect is activated. This is not a Flip Summon (so Trap Hole, etc. cannot be used).

2. "Curse of Fiend" can be activated during your Standby Phase (and only during your Standby Phase) simply because the card itself says so.

Hmm......stupis super super super super short print. Now I must hunt down 40 of them and make them the back of my deck. MuWaHaHaHa.

But anyway, that was honestly a really quick answer.
