Cybernetic Cyclopean CRV-EN017

Cybernetic Cyclopean
Effect Monster (Beast-Warrior / EARTH / 4 Stars / ATK 1400 / DEF 200)

While you have no cards in your hand, increase the ATK of this card by 1000 points.

"¢ There are no published rulings for "Cybernetic Cyclopean".

Okay, overall I like this card. It has good support, being both Earth and Beast-Warrior. It also has synergy for Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane, Enraged Battle Ox, discarding effects, etc. It has potential in certain decks.

This card's main combo so far at the prerelease was with Pot of Generosity, which should never see play outside of the prerelease. Otherwise, I see any discard card getting abused to pump this guy. Otherwise, not a heck of a lot of comboes.

This guy has the availability if being searchable by Giant Rat, Sangan, Witch of the Black Forest (Traditional). He is a Beast-Warrior, and Earth, so he has support. Otherwise, average card, not bad, not good.

This card has a lot against it too. It's effect is reliant on overextension, which is never a good thing, so that's against it. Also, it has 200 DEF, which means that Tsukuyomi + Sinister Serpent or Book of Moon + Sinister Serpent owns it.

When playing this card, don't get too eager to overextend, conserve your hand, and most likely that Cyclopean. Otherwise, be weary of Book of Moon, this card might, might benefit from Final Attack Orders, or, for rentsiness, Prepare to Strike Back.

The best deck for this card could be a Beast deck, or even possibly try splashing one in a Machine deck.

Advanced: 2.5/5
Traditional: 3.25/5 The presence of CED-EotE helps this card out a tad.
Limited: 4/5 Not bad here either.
Sealed Pack: 4/5 This was used and abused.

Continuing CRV week, we get a mechanical beast. See, not only are machines getting upgrades. So are other kinds of monsters. Weird ones but whatever.

The Cybernetic Cyclopean. Looks like the Hitotsu-Me Giant got quite an upgrade. Yeah, only mere 200 ATK and a terrible decrease of 800 DEF points but that's ok. Its special effect is what makes this card brutal.

The effect is pretty straight forward. Have an empty hand and this guy is swinging for 2400 ATK points. That almost as good Giant Kozaky and definitely better than those Heavy hitting LV 4s like Goblin Attack Force and like, that carry a negative effect like being switching to DEF mode at the end of the battle step. Although it certainly carries the DEF of one those monsters. A massive beatstick but there is a catch but this depends how you play. If you find yourself with an empty hand very often in your duels, then this card can be your friend. It depends on poor hand management. I don't like poor hand management. As such I see this card more as a backup or last line of defense because I'll won't actually try to toss my hand away just for one monster.

As a Beast-warrior it benefits from supports cards like Enraged Battle Ox. An empty hand with these two on the field, means you have a 2400 hitter that dealing damage through DEF.

Downfalls to this card are fairly obvious. It wants poor hand management. This means that if you want to use its effect, you must try to empty out your hand as much as possible by either setting cards on the field or using the cards in your hand. This is bad for several reasons. One, your setting yourself up for massive Spell/Trap removal. That or a unusable Spell/Trap field should Jinzo or Spell Canceller hit the field. and in the case of monsters, you never know when you'll need a defense. You should manage your resources carefully.

Without the effect active, its just a regular 1400 LV 4 monster. It won't to long for the opponent to step over it with the right monster. Don't even get started on its pitiful DEF. Beware of Book of Moons, Level Limit- Area B and Tsukuyomi which will kick it while its down.

The best place to use this monster is in Earth decks and Beast decks that revolve around Enraged Battle Ox and the like. However, this card is a backup. It should be used as last line of defense. Don't purposely load up your field or dwindle your hand just for him. Another kind of deck he could prove useful is one revolves around other monster cards that share a similar effect like his. Blade Knight and Thebian Nightmare come to mind.

In the sealed format. Its an ok monster, there only six LV 4 monsters that have an ATK higher than his. Still, be wary. Each one of them won't break sweat taking him out especially the Goblin Elites and Lei Lei. You don't really have to worry about Giant Kozaky. 3.5/5

In advance format, don't bother unless your going for very offensive Beast/Beast Warrior deck. He'll do well but not so great anywhere else. 3/5

Trying it in the traditional should only be attempted by the very brave or the very foolish. Seriously however, I wouldn't recommend using it here. 1/5
