Dark Mimic LV1
DARK/Fiend/Effect/*
FLIP: Draw 1 card from your deck. Also, during your Standby Phase, send this face-up card to the Graveyard to Special Summon 1 "Dark Mimic LV3" from your hand or Deck.
ATK/100
DEF/1000
Rulings:
-[Re: Dark Mimic LV3] If "Dark Mimic LV3" is Special Summoned by the effect of "Dark Mimic LV1" and the opponent Summons "Tsukuyomi" to flip "Dark Mimic LV3" face-down and then attacks it, you will only draw 1 card because its effect was reset when it was flipped face-down.
-[Re: Dark Mimic LV3] If "Dark Mimic LV3" is Special Summoned by the effect of "Dark Mimic LV1", and is then sent to the Graveyard and revived with "Monster Reborn", you cannot draw 2 cards for "Dark Mimic LV3" because it was Special Summoned by the effect of "Monster Reborn", not by the effect of "Dark Mimic LV1".
-[Re: Dark Mimic LV3] If you take control of your opponent's "Dark Mimic LV1" with "Snatch Steal", you can send it to the Graveyard during your Standby Phase to Special Summon your "Dark Mimic LV3".
-[Re: Dark Mimic LV3] If you use "Level Up!" and send "Dark Mimic LV1" to the Graveyard to Special Summon "Dark Mimic LV3", then "Dark Mimic LV3" was Special Summoned by the effect of "Level Up!", not by the effect of "Dark Mimic LV1". So you only draw 1 card when "Dark Mimic LV3" is sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle.
-[Re: Dark Mimic LV3] You can use "Level Up!" to send "Dark Mimic LV3" to the Graveyard in order to Special Summon "Dark Mimic LV1" because it is mentioned in "Dark Mimic LV3"'s card text.
Today in draw week, we tackle a little creature that RPG players the world over will reccognize as the master of sinking hopes ("It's a chest with a Potion in it! Oh Crap...never mind, it's a Mimic..."), Dark Mimc LV1. DARK/Fiend makes him Chaos, Necrofear, and Strike Ninja food, so on and so forth. Level 1 means he can be morphed into the ever-present Thousand-Eyes Restrict. Slips under G. Bind, LLA-B, suffers from weaks stats blah blah blah. You already know this stuff. This first paragraph is often just self gratification anyway, so (At this point he began rambling. Rambling deleted. You're welcome. ~editor) winthin certain parts of you pupils. Now, onto the effect.
What really makes this box with eyes special, is that he has a flip effect that (<gasp>) draws cards. Who would have expected THAT right in the middle of Draw Week. But yeah, with NoC(k) down to one per deck, this card's playability jumps a few notches. Then, with the banning of all good draw power, his power level jumps yet again. Go Mimic! Then again, Mystic Swordsman LV2 is likely to see a spike in use because of the lack of FLIP effect control, Mimic drops again. Boo Swordsman!
Any effect that lets you draw cards is a good one right now, unless it has such a hefty drawback you are likely to lose the game just by activating it. This just says "draw 1 card", no catches, no drawback, except being attachted to a puny little 100/1000 body. And, of course he IS a flip effect, so Moon Man Tsukuyomi can abuse him about as well as anyone else can. 1000 DEF holds off Sangan and a few other wimps at least, if not Tomato and Don, so he CAN be used to slow the opponent down at least a little bit if they are prone to attacking with smaller monsters first.
Lastly, he can summon Dark Mimic LV3 should he be face up on the field during your standby phase. Note that this is not part of the flip effect (similar to how Slate Warrior's stat lowering effect is not part of his flip effect). LV3 is a whole 'nother box of worms (quite literally) and will be covered tomorow.
Overall, Mimic LV1 is a decent draw card. It's stats aren't as ncie as Dekoichi, but then again Dekoichi can't be morphed into TER. The main thing you have to notice about monsters like this that let you draw one card, is that unless their stats are useable
for something other than just flipping and dying, it is pointless to slip one in and make your deck 41. Similar to how Upstart Goblin is pointless in a deck with 41+ cards in it.
Advanced: 3/5 Not great, not bad, just so-so. I like it.
Traditional: 0/5 It ain't broken; don't run it.
Limited: 2/5 I've never played Sealed SOD, but the card list seems like there would be a lot of attacking going on, and this guy does nothing to A) help you go on the offensive or B) stop in incoming face smashing. HE does provide draw power though, which is hella limited in...Limited.
