dark ruler ha des vs. reflect bounder

RIP Jacob KT 2/16/06
I have read the rulings on this but the wording used to decribe the ruling still confuses me. The ruling states that reflect bounder's effect activates and that it's effect it also negated; normally this would be straitforward. The problem I have with this is that rfeflect bounder has TWO effects. Would someone please explain to me how these two cards interact in detail?

Dark Ruler attacks Reflect Bounder.

1.  Reflect Bounders first effect happens before Damage Calculation, inflicting 2400 Direct Damage to the Controller of Dark Ruler, so Dark Ruler cannot negate that portion of Bounders effect.

2.  Damage Calculation determines that Bounder is indeed destroyed by Dark Ruler.

3.  Dark Ruler's effect then kicks in after Damage Calculation and any monster destroyed by a Fiend (Dark Ruler=Fiend) while Dark Ruler is face-up on the field is destroyed by Dark Rulers effect, and if that monster is an effect monster, their effect would then be negated.

4.  Bounders effect to destroy himself after Damage Calculation is negated.

so, if that's correct, what your saying is that reflect bounder's first effect cannot be negated by dark ruler ha des and that reflect bounder's 2nd effect is negated but it doesn't really make a differance anyway?

Exactly. Since he destroys himself anyway, its almost the same result, but, where this matters, I believe, is if you activated Waboku, then Reflect Bounder would destroy himself because he was not destroyed by Dark Ruler and his second effect was not negated.

I don't think currently we have anything that would make this important. However if we get an equip card someday with the effect to remove from play a card destroyed by an equipped monster in battle (like DMOC's effect). Then it will become important.
