Rulings

-"Des Wombat" even protects you against damage from your own card effects, like "Dark Snake Syndrome" or "Ring of Destruction".
-"Des Wombat" even protects you against card effects where the damage is undecided at activation, like "Dice Jar".
-"Des Wombat" will protect you against the effect damage of "Graverobber".
-If your only "Des Wombat" is destroyed by "Judgment of Anubis" or "Ring of Destruction", it is no longer on the field so it will not protect you against the damage from these card effects.
-[Re: Power Bond] You can prevent the damage from "Power Bond" with "Des Wombat".

Today we take a gander at Josh Horn, playing the role of Des Wombat in the infamous Kickin' Kitty OTK Deck. First, there are three things you need to notice about Ye Olde Wombat. One, he's a Beast (Kitty says "I'm half way there"). Two, he's level 3 (Kitty says "I can pull this bad boy"). Three, he's EARTH (Radiant says "I make you big"). And, at 1600 ATK, he is the biggest thing you can pull with Construction Cat (sans any sort of boosting that Gyaku Gire Panda may recieve).

Most of the time, Dr. Wombat won't be used for his effect (especially in a Kitty Beatdown), but let's look at it anyway...hrm, burn negation...not bad. A level 3 monster that slips under the two most commonly played stall cards, has adequate ATK, prevents burn damage, AND is pullable by the Kat Kombo? That, ladies and gentleman, is one darn good creature. Out of the commonly played deck, this effect doesn't stop that much. Ring of Destruction, maybe Ceasefire or the odd Cannon Soldier, but that isn't the important thing. What IS important, is that this card allows Kitty Killa to go up against two strong deck types (Goat control with the Pandas, and Burn with the Wombats) without sideboarding. This not only can insure an easy game one win, but it can also free up space in the sideboard. With a limit of 15, you can use that space for stuff that you really need.

Oh, and he isn't that bad of an attacker on his own if he absolutley HAS to. He takes out Don, Sangan, battle Searchers, D.D. Warrior Lady, and goes mano-a-mano with Tribe, A beefy handed Blade Knight, and a counterless Breaker. Overall, I see him as a neccessary two-of at the very least in a Kitty deck, but I would go three just in case.

Traditional: it ain't broken here even in a Kitty deck/5
Advanced: 4.2/5 For a Killa Kitty OTK deck. It's a beatstick that Rescue Cat can pull, and is psuedo-neccessary if they have no goats and you're going for 8000 straight.

Des Wombat is a great card after all, effect-wise or state-wise - especially against the burn deck that may be seen even more after the new ban list.

By the way, what is a kitty OTK deck? (just curious to know something I don't know already..)

Killer Kitty OTK (or any other various name you may discover you like more) is a deck type that very much takes advantage of the heavily played Scapegoats in the current metagame. It uses Rescue Cat and/or Last Will (to pull a Rescue Cat) for a total of four monsters...but only for one turn. But let us do some quick math...let's assume you Trunade an open monster field, and they chain Scapegoats. You summon Kitty, activate Last Will, and do your thing. You now have two Gyaku Gire Pandas and a Rescue Cat on the field. The you sac the Second Rescue Cat for another Panda and a Milus Radiant. First Panda attacks a Goat:

800+500+4(500) = 3300ATK

That's 3300 points of Trample damage. Now, there is one less goat, but another Panda comes trampling down the hill side...

800+500+3(500) = 2800ATK

2800 more points of damage. Ouch...starting to sting, no? Well, there's one last Panda left, but only two goats...

800+500+2(500) = 2300ATK

2300 points more or Pure Panda Pounding(TM). Totaling that up we have...

2300+2800+3300=8400
8400>8000

Chances are, they're dead. But even without Goats, if you trunade with a Cat and a Will in your hand, and still have enough monsters left in your deck, you can pull off a clean 8000 sweep. The monsters most often pulled via the Cat include D.D. Crazy Beast, Gyaku Gire Panda, Des Wombat, and Milus Radiant. It can be a VERY quick deck, and can even pack stall a la G. Bind and LLA-B to stall if they don't have the pieces in hand. The deck requires skill to play, to say the least, but can pull off a good few wins out of games it has no right to win.

When playing against it, be sure to kill their monsters quick, and for the love of god, if you haven't seen a Panda yet, DON'T CHAIN GOATS TO THAT TRUNADE!!! YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF ON THE RECIEVING END OF A BRTUAL BEATDOWN!!! I encourage anyone who sees this deck (or any Battle Centered OTK) played in large levels in their area to Main Deck, or at least Side Deck the following cards:
-Waboku
-Threatning Roar
-Newdoria
-Mind Crush
Waboku and Threatning Roar stall for that one turn you might need, while a chained Mind Crush to a Trunade while they have suspected combo pieces in hand can often kill them right there. Newdoria is a highly overlooked monster that can serve as a defense to multiple monsters at once by stopping the attack of one and killing another (aka. Ben Kei and Kitty ph33r it...Baou not withstanding).

Now there's something I didn't see. Graverobber gives me thousand ideas to play it. Hmm, thanks. I think I know a tactical deck with this combo, since most of the cards I get to play against are hard to collect.
