Destiny Hero Diamond Dude!

Okay, I have to say this is probably a card that's going to cause a lot of headaches... and maybe one day it will even be restricted or something. Yes, a "Hero" card restricted...

Anyway, here is my question. And it regards two cards in particular that I have in my Horus Deck. Level Up! and Metamorphosis.

If I activate Destiny Hero Diamond Dude's effect and send either of these two cards to the graveyard, do I have to send the monsters they request for to the graveyard to get their effects?

In other words, if I had Horus The Black-Flame Dragon LV4 on the field would I get to special summon LV6 from my deck and keep LV4 on the field? For that matter, can I just get a FREE LV8 from my deck without six on the field, since I don't have to pay the cost for Level Up?

Would the same hold for Metamorphosis? Can I choose any level of fusion monster from my fusion deck? Let's get a judge's opinion on this if we can.

Metamorphosis will simply resolve without effect because you didnt pay its cost and so you dont know what star level fusion monster to summon id say......

Tributing for meta really shouldnt be viewed as a cost as it has direct bearing on its effect.

Level Up! not sure on this one..... but id play it the same as meta.

I may be wrong on this but thats how i see it.

Both Cards must have a reference in order to select a monster to be summoned, which is why you cannot chain Serial Spell to their effect and summon another monster.

More than likely, it will be that you can still "activate" both of them, but the effect will disappear.

I have to agree. The effects of both Metamorphasis and Level Up! are looking to see which type of monster to summon. Without a starting point(tributed monster to reference), they have no idea what to summon.

Wouldn't the discard of either Level Up or Metamorphosis be similar to any other card effect that causes you to discard? Isn't the timing of activation missed because of the effect to discard? Or can you chain to the effect of Diamond Dude if it is the turn player activating his effect and probably use the effect of Level Up and Metamorphosis?

the tributing for Metamorphasis, and the sending for Level Up!, is not the same as a discard. Its also a bit different from a regular cost.

Metamorphasis isn't asking you to tribute any monster and special summon any Fusion monster. Its looking at a specific level from the tributed monster.

Level Up! isn't looking for you to send any Level monster (like Silent Magician LV4) so that you can special summon any Level monster (like Winged Kuriboh LV10). You need a specific Level monster to be sent to the Graveyard in order for the effect to know which kind and level of Level monster can be special summoned from your hand/deck.

Without those specific reference points, the effect is useless. So sure, you can use the effect of Level Up! or Metamorphasis with Diamand Dude. But you will not benefit anything by it. The effect simply cannot resolve.

Based on the rulings posted about Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude, please clarify
how I would rule on this if the Normal magic card was Level Up.

Would you still send a Monster with LV in its name?

ANSWER:

Sending a monster with "LV" in its card name is a cost for activating "Level Up!".

Therefore, if you activate "Level Up!"'s effect via "Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude", "Level Up!"'s effect disappears.

This is because you NEED to have a Tributed "LV" monster to use as a frame of reference.

Even if you do have a "LV" monster face-up on the field, you can't Tribute it, as "Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude"'s effect bypasses costs.

I hope this clears things up!

Indeed.

Without Tributing a monster to pay for the cost of "Metamorphosis," it has no frame of reference for its effect and thus would do nothing.
