Ectoplasmer [SOD-043]

"Only once during each player's end phase, the turn player tributes one face-up monster on his/her side of the field and inflicts damage to the opponent's life points equal to half the original ATK of the tributed monster"

It's somewhat overlooked as you often won't need it until near the end of the duel when you have no way of getting to your opponent's LP. So what would be some good combinations with Ectoplasmer if any?

actually they made a card that is specifically for ectoplasmer and its called malice doll of demise.

heres malice dolls effect: If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard by the effect of a Continuous Spell Card, Special Summon this card from the Graveyard during the Standby Phase of your turn.

Ahhh, good point. Cards like Malice Doll and say, Vampire Lord if Ecto was on your opponent's side of the field.

It works really well in fiend decks. It helps get fiends in the graveyard for Necrofear. Also, you can swing with your Giant Orc, switch it to defense, and then launch it at your opponent for another 1100 LP.

Ecto wouldn't activate Vampire Lord's effect it "Tributes" the monster it doesn't "Destroy" it. It is a great card to keep your opponent from keeping anything on the field, Malice Doll is a must and I'd suggest a few Pikeru to lessen some of the damage you might take.

Also consider Manticore of Darkness and Card of Safe Return into your plans for a Ectoplasmer deck. The combination is decadent!

Not necessarily "anything" on the field. Anything "face-up" on the field. Monsters face-down are unaffected. So cards like Stealth Bird and Swarm of Scarab/Locust work well with Ecto because they deal damage and destroy cards, then flip face-down for protection.
