  • Does End of Anubis negate Necro Gardna's effect?

Re: The end of anubus vs. necro guardna

    Answer:
Yes it will, because "Necro Gardna's" effect activates in the Graveyard.

Does anyone else think this is wrong? Isn't the removal of Necro Gardna considered a COST to negate the battle? End of Anubis cannot negate COSTS.

I think that's just fine.

The effect of Necro Gardna does activate in the Graveyard. The cost of activating it is to remove a card from play (specifically, Necro Gardna). But that doesn't mean the effect "follows" the card and ends up activating in the removed from play area.

Consider Exiled Force with Skill Drain. The effect of Exiled Force still remains and activates and resolves on the field, but since the card it comes from is missing, Skill Drain can't negate it.

When you activate an effect, you don't pat the cost and then activate it. You say, "I'm activating this effect", activate it, pay the cost and wait for Chains. Wherever you've activated it is where that effect stays, usually regardless of where the card it comes from smegs off to.

See also the Heralds for more proof:

• "Herald of Green Light's" effect will not be negated by the effect of "The End of Anubis" because it doesn't activate in the Graveyard.
Their effects happen in the hand, even though the cards themselves are sent to the Graveyard.

Think of it this way. "Necro Gardna" needs to be in the Graveyard for you to activate his effect, so his effect activates in the Graveyard.

If his effect activated in the RFP Zone, then he'd need to be in the RFP Zone for you to activate his effect.
