Face-Down Field Spell Cards

Got this notion from Levia-Dragon - Daedalus' second ruling:

You can't send a face-down "Umi" or "A Legendary Ocean" to activate "Levia-Dragon Daedalus"' effect.

I've actually set a field spell card before just to act as bait for my opponents spell/trap removal but I've always been unclear as to where exactly a face-down Field Spell Card is supposed to go. Since it's an indeteminate card face-down, does it go into your five-card S/T Zone then into your Field Spell Zone when flipped? Or does it actually have to be set in the Field Spell Zone?

Up to what I know, it would have to follow this Reasoning(I don't refer to the card):

You can put a monster f/d on the monster card zone but you cannot place it f/d in the S/T card zone deliberately, thus i would assume that it should go in its respective zone for field spell cards. Hope it can help you get an idea...

from the manual:

They may be placed face-down in the Field Card Zone, but will not be activated until flipped face-up.

and it's interesting that they use the word "may"...

Suggests that you could place them face down in the s/t zone if you wanted to as well.

Yeah, the wording is kind of vauge. "May" could be interpreted to mean you may place the card face-down but only in the Field Spell Zone or "may" could mean you may place it face-down in any S/T zone you want. I would think it would be the former, though.

The ambiguous "may" is refering to the choice of placing the Field Spell Card face-up or face-down, not where you place it, just saying this for clarity sake.

Well, they have to assume it's a Field Spell, like they have to assume that a f/d card in a monster zone is a monster, and if necessary, it got the number of tributes it needed

I guess that makes sense. How do you make sure your opponent isn't setting monsters in his S/T Zone to get the boost for Mage Power? You just have to trust him.
