Field magic card vs another field magic card

Greetings fair community.

The situation is:

I have a clock tower prision with 4 clock counters. I activate another clock tower to "destroy" my previous clock tower and gain the effect. Our great judge said that my previous field is not destroyed but just sended to the graveyard (without being destroyed). I, being the reasonable man that I am, did not believe him.

Is this true?

If so, what about if my opponent activates a field? Mine is sended to the graveyard or it is destroyed and sended to the graveyard?

The field spell would be destroyed (by game mechanics, but still destroyed) in both scenarios. The only difference is that if your opponent activates the field spell and the activation is negated (Magic Jammer for example), yours would stay on the field.
