And to continue the subject, though we're going to be going way off subject.
Because of how these forums came about, I would like to think that general membership to City of Gamers is a bit more intelligent than the average forum. In other words, there's less of a n00b / bs / flame / spam factor than what can be found elsewhere. Now I'm not saying you won't find that here (that's the subject of another thread) but by in large the people here are ones who spent their time seeking answers on how the game is played or have the answers. Especially people like yourself Kenji are an invaluable resource for helping to spread the correct way on how to play.
That said, I feel like at times we are treated like we are complete idiots whenever it comes to future spoilers. The most noted of this was right before Strike of Neos was released. It was very common knowledge (at least by those who looked up the spoilers) that "The Six Samurai" were called "The Six Warmasters" back with the Japanese Translated Spoilers. Yet any reference to The Six Warmasters was greeted with rather disparaging remarks ("The Six Warhamsters"? Right........)
The people that put forth the effort to translate the card names and effects put in a lot of time and effort in order to provide as accurate of a translation for the rest of us who don't understand Japanese so we can see what is coming and have an idea on what we could do with future decks. Thing is though that even if the card title is way wrong, I'm reasonably certain the effect of the card is going to be close (if not the same) as what the spoilers list it as. So even if the card name was translated as "Super Wild Monkey Resurrection Attack!" I'm mostly certain the effect would still be pretty close to a) My life points are now 100 and b) I can get a lot of unique Six Samurai monsters to the field for an all or nothing shot at game.
I've seen enough of the TCG vs. OCG war to see both sides have their points and are right on some things and wrong on others. But, this post isn't trying further that. It's merely to say that the translators volunteer their time and effort to bring this information over. Noone in the TCG who reads that though knows that the names and such are going to be exactly the same. We don't read it for that. We read it to see what kind of decks we might want to run along with what we might have to face. Reversal Quiz / Six Samurai? Check. Norreras / Feather of the Phoenix / Dimension Fusion OTK? Oh damn that's a lock. (And yes, I'm pretty certain "Sky Devil Lord - Norreras / Enrise / Invisil" are not going to be their TCG names either, but people know what I am talking about at least until said set is released.)
The information is out there. (
http://www.dmcomet.net - that's pretty much where I go to find all this and both Spikes and Baron do put a lot of effort into providing as accurate of translations as possible and they have updated their translations when they felt something could have been stated better). It's because of these spoilers that I saw 4-5 months ago that made me want to spend more money on this game than any other time in history since I knew the Aster Duelist Packs and Strike of Neos were going to be that good, not to mention the solid SD10 with the Gadgets. (I'm not going to say anything about the decision to nix SD11 outside of Japan... that too is a subject for another time). Force of the Breaker will likely get a good amount of money from me too and Tactical Evolution looks like it's going to break the game even further open with a new dynamic for dueling. And, I thank those guys and the other people on their forums who put forth the effort to find the information and bring it to the rest of us. But remember, we are smart enough to know nothing is official in the TCG until the cards are released in the TCG. But we shouldn't treat the people who put the advanced spoilers out there as if they don't know anything. They do get the cards first and as such have that information in hand before well have any "official" idea.
This really isn't the same kids game anymore. It might be marketed towards them but kids who started on this game when it came out are now adults and adults who played are... well... older. We should be treated as such.
That's all for this soapbox. Opinions welcome.
