Gearfired the Iron Knight and Fusion Sword Murasame Blade

Since Gearfried the Iron Knight says to destroy equip cards attached to him would Fusion Sword Murasame Blade be destoryed even though it's effect says it can't?

Gearfried tries to destroy the card as soon as it has finished equipping. However, Murasame Blade's continuous "can't destroy me" effect kicks in even sooner than Gearfried's effect does. Now it's indestructible, and then Gearfriend tries to destroy it (only once, since it's a trigger effect (i.e. "When an Equip Card is equipped to this card...")). But it can't, so Gearfried's destroying effect resolves without effect. That leaves Murasame Blade intact.

If Skill Drain is in effect, and an Equip Card is attached to Gearfried, and then later Skill Drain goes away, then the Equip Card will still remain equipped. It's only (potentially) destroyed directly after its equipment, not at any point it's still equipped.

I'll say this once and only once. "Gearfried the Iron Knight"s effect is Continuous. It is NOT a Triggered Effect.

Where did you get this information from? Can you provide a link please?

Card text. I'm extrapolating. It says "when the thing's equipped to me", implying a mandatory trigger. It at least doesn't sound like a continuous effect. Logically, the way I described would be how it works.

Besides, if Gearfried's effect is continuous, wouldn't it keep trying to destroy the card equipped to it for as long as it's equipped (always, barring outside forces), leading to an infinite loop? And we know those don't exist.

But yes, you can't chain to it. Fair enough. It's continuous, and if it can't work properly the first time it gives up. Doesn't sound good, but it's Yu-Gi-Oh!.

So I'm wrong. Ignore me.

You still didn't answer my question about where you 'came up' with this information.

It was a guess based upon my English skills and my knowledge of the game already. As I said, I read Gearfried's effect as a mandatory trigger, which would imply my explanation (only activates at the point of equip, not afterwards). No official basis whatsoever. I guess I just assumed the card actually meant what it said.

I can't find any actual rulings on this, so I was guessing. It seems I'm wrong, so I'll back down.

I would think, again, based on English grammar (a very dangerous thing to base anything in this game) "When an Equipped card is equipped" one could read it as "whenever someone successfully equips an equip card" or "At any time, if there is an equip card equipped...." Question, though: Can you chain to the effect of Gearfeed that destroys an equip card, if it is continuous? wouldn't that be like trying to chain to Jinzo's effect?
"¢ [Re: Butterfly Dagger - Elma] When "Butterfly Dagger - Elma" is destroyed by "Gearfried the Iron Knight"'s effect, you can chain to this effect with "Really Eternal Rest" and destroy "Gearfried the Iron Knight", and "Butterfly Dagger - Elma" will be destroyed because "Gearfried the Iron Knight" was destroyed, so "Butterfly Dagger - Elma" cannot return to the owner's hand.

Soory, I was trying to call DAmazing. I know he does Netrep, so i figured he could do Ronin too, or is that John? Anyway, it seems that there are a few changes in the UDE FAQ that need to be addressed. Do they send you an update, or do you just paruse daily...lol.

The removal of that ruling in the UDE FAQ is quite recent and partially due to discussions here on CoG.

UDE has "Gearfried the Iron Knight's" effect listed as continuous. As such that ruling with "Really Eternal Rest" and "Butterfly Dagger - Elma" could not be correct and it was removed. However, according to the JERP and some other sources, "Gearfried's" effect is a mandatory trigger. UDE is waiting to hear the final verdict from Konami.

I just wish they would remove other rulings that obviously can't be correct. It is puzzling that this one got yanked prior to confirmation with Konami when so often we've been told that they can't remove a known erroneous ruling because they have not received confirmation from Konami.

Vampire Lord vs. Royal Oppression for example.

The JERP is another site that contains Yugioh Rulings. It's all in Japanese though, but it's 'usually' more accurate than not when English rulings come into question.

The JERP ruling was also a changed ruling a couple of years ago. It had been ruled as Continuous previously as well.

Konami definately needs to make up thier minds. If they do settle on making it a Trigger, the ruling would still need to be reworded, but if they keep it Continuous they should update the text to use the "As long as..." templating.
