Probably the most advise you'll get from this forum would be Yugi related That's not to say DM and Pokemon aren't worth the effort. That simply means that Yugi is the primary experience at the forum at the moment. I can say, though, that there are quite a few judges here, one's who head judges events, that can offer you a lot of good advise about going to these events. This is probably a resource you may not find elsewhere.
What is it you want do get out of joining the Pro scene? The number one reason people play at high level tournaments is money. The second is fame. None of the games you mentioned offer the first. As for the second it comes in spurts. You can win big one year and be forgoten the next year. Anyone know who won the Pokemon championships?

you could probably win more playing in one of the games the gaming companies gear towards and older crowd (vs. system, magic the gathering, spoils, dreamblade, etc.). I would suggest playing the one you feel most confident about your playing skills in.

There's good prizes for YGO. Poke'mon gives out scholorships. I'm not very good at Magic, well, I just barly have any cards. Not to sound cocky but I'm pretty good at any TCG I pick up. In under 6 months of playing YGO I made a full proof lock and became the second best in my school.

The only problem is you have to beat 500 other players before getting one. Even then you could still lose money. The only way to make a profit is to come in 1st or 2nd.
From what I have seen on the local level Pokemon's prizes are better. They give scholarships and game systems at the city and state levels. Magic and VS are in a league by themselves because they offer money. I'm not saying they are the better game only have the better prizes for premiere tournaments.

Likely the best anyone can do in the game of Yugioh is hit the "break even" point...that meaning, you win enough boxes of cards and a few other things that you don't have to buy cards anymore and have enough boxes of cards and singles as well as perhaps a laptop or IPOD to sell to break even on your travel expenses.....that's if you're one of the top 4 players in the nation on a consistant basis.
It's entirely possible and more likely that if you play on a state / regional level and very good you could hit this break even point. Traveling outside of the state for tournaments gets expensive quickly.
As previously mentioned, VS, MTG, and Dreamblade offer the big money prizes and are likely the only means of making a real profit off of playing the game....however, if you're a sharp business person you're more likely to make money selling the cards than playing them....lots of opp. and pretty easy to start too selling cards.
