does his effect allow him to return himself to your hand when he's destroyed? are there exeptions to this rule? What happens if he's discarded by an effect like don zaloog's and what happens if he's snatched and tributed?

Yes. He has "Six Samurai" in his card name. But it only works if he's destroyed by an opponent's card effect.

In those cases he's not destroyed by an opponent's card effect. So no, in that case he won't get his effect.

Somewhere (can't find it now of course... seems to be a lot of that going on lately) there was a post that said you do not pick the Six Samurai monster until the resolution of Grandmaster's effect. Since that would make it a Non-Targeting effect, Necrovalley cannot negate it.

Answer:

Since "Grandmaster of the Six Samurai" does not have the restriction "and sent to the Graveyard", its effect will still activate.

Its effect will be used to target a "Six Samurai" that is in the Graveyard at the time its effect is activated.
Necrovalley will negate the effect of Grandmaster of the Six Samurai.
