Guardian Sphinx Effect

Is the effect of Guardian Sphinx activated only if the turn player flip summons him or will it activate if it is flipped face up when a player attacks him while set? The text is a little unclear where it says " if flip summoned".

I would say yes its effect activates just like every other multi-flip monster. Damage calc as normal then monsters go flying back to the hand and you sit back laughing. Especially if he survives the attack.

When this card is Flip Summoned

It will only activate the effect when you Flip Summon Guardian Sphinx.

Flip Summon does not equal FLIP, Flip Summon involves manually flipping the monster from face-down position to face-up attack position.
