How are you treating the DB1/DR1/DB2 sets?

I'm kind of curious how people are treating this massive new reprint phase in the game.  I haven't fully decided what I'm going to do myself.  I figure it will amount to one of two things:

- Collect 3x every card in DB1 and sell off old LOB, MRL, PSV, LON sets (not MRD yet)
- Collect 1x every card in DB1 and keep all my old cards

I was originally going to do the first option, but the holo ratios are "standard", 1:12 for Ultras, 1:6 for Supers, and well, that just sucks.  I was completely convinced that the ratios were 1:8 and 1:4, which makes a huge difference in costs.  (I don't have, nor believe in, a pocket scale).  As it stands, I think it would cost close to $900-$1000 to acquire 3x every single card in the set.  That is outrageous.

I've just about decided that I am NOT going to bother with 'Dark Revelation 1".  From what I've been able to learn, there aren't any new cards at all.  Certainly nothing I don't already have.  Perhaps if they make "Magical Scientist" holo, but I can't think of much else that would even remotely interest me.

But ... Dark Beginning 2 = Dilemma.  All kinds of cards we've never seen outside of the TPx packs.  Many we just flat out have never seen before.  Might be difficult to resist this set.  Might have to start saving now  :D

What are your thoughts?  Are you collecting DB1 in full?  Are you just going for Makyura and the Super Rare "Pot of Greed"?  Dish.

I'm going for the full set of DB1 for the claim of having the set. I figure this way I can trade a Holo from an older set for something else I need while still being able to play with the reprint. Plus this way I can just hunt for an entire set of the old things without worrying about "how many did I have and is it worth it?"

Thanks to some trades I've made lately, I've become more of a "completist" than I was before...

I'm not going to buy a single pack because I think it's complete bull what UDE is doing. No other card game makes a card in more then 1 set, no one. The only thing I intend on doing with this new set it getting a few holo pots of greed through some trades.

Doesn't Pokemon release the same cards OVER and OVER and OVER again?

I think its great that they came out with Dark Beginnings!  Aside from the fact that some cards just look down-right strange as commons, like "Sanga of Thunder", there really is no trade off from having one or the other.  I've seen the rare vs super rare Pot of Greed and while I prefer the "look" of the newer PoG, I still like (and use) my LOB version.

Its also gives me an opportunity to collect that hard to find Ultra Rare Change of Heart and Snatch Steal.

You have to remember one thing though, since this is a reprint set, you dont ever have to purchase one pack if you dont want to.  With only two cards included as new or newer to the Game, you can always wait to trade for them if and when it comes your way to do so.  I particularly didnt care for Soul of the Duelist and it is easy for me to forget about the set completely, if it werent for Horus and Mystic Swordsman.  But every now and then I'll buy a pack because I wouldnt mind a LV8 Horus at all... lol

dude magic reprints their sets and ban whole sets completly. what are you talking about nobody reprints.

btw, we needed the reprint, there were and are alot of people out there belive it or not that dont or werent lucky enough to get certain card (cough:: snatch steel, call of the haunted, painfull choice)

if not for this set, which i belive is something owed to us, (fact is japan had alot of the harder cards to get as commons a long time ago. everybody had yata, mirror, etc..)

db1,db2,dr1,and dr2 are all gonna be and are really good stuff for thouse of us that werent lucky the first time.

Reprints = Good, I would have a ghost of a chance in Raw Deal if it wasn't for reprint sets, so it does help the new players out, so I'm for it.

as does MTG and Duel Masters.. a LOT of card games reprint cards.

I honestly will have to disagree with everyone of you who thinks that DB2 will have Cyber Stein, Morphing Jar, Needle Worm, Royal Decree, etc. I highly doubt that UD will reprint any of the TP cards outside of TPs except for Big Shield Guardna/Big Shield Gardna.

actaully gemini elf that isnt as far fetched as it sounds, as of right now we arnt all that cought up with Japan. the only thing we are caught up in is sets, and that is a half true, there were cards in older sets that we didnt get.

there were common versions of harder cards as structure / commons.

and the fact that we are still missing mad loads of promos.

so db2 isnt as farfetched as it sounds when you see morphin, needle, cyber and royal decree.

why do you think everything is hecktik in japan?

because they got alot of their stuff as commons.

heck i can scan for you my United we stand, Distressing choice, and crush card. all 3 of them as commons.

I don't see why they'd release one TP card, their most recent, and not any others.. it just doesn't seem to make sense to me. I'm expecting to see them all there. I believe they also said that Cyber-Stein would be reprinted, and considering it's supposedly in DB2 it would seem logical, to me, that it would be in the English DB2.

Even Magic reprinted some of the same cards over and over. heck, each "edition" release reprinted at least a few cards almost every time. How many times has "Dark Ritual" been printed, not to mention the basic lands? Pokemon granted just actually cycled back to the beginning in Fire Red/Leaf Green going back to the originals, but that's probably to bring back the "good ol' boys" of the past for one last run.

The game will be much better off by making cards available to use. Yes resale will be slightly less for some of these cards when they are commons but you can actually create a deck without spending days or weeks searching out the cards you need (and trading away the good cards from your last deck to get the cards you need for your next deck). Look at how many times Monster Reborn has been reprinted as a common and an Original LOB-118 still sells for $30.00 or so.

You should be able to win a duel based on your ability to build a better deck and play smarter than your opponent (plus that whole luck factor), instead of being able to buy the win because you can use cards your opponent can't afford. I'm pretty sure you'd be ticked if you kept getting edged out of Regionals by a card like Cyber-Stein. I'm trying to put a machine deck together and would really like to use Mechanical Chaser, there is no way I'm dropping $120 - $200 so I can pick up 3 1850 Beatsticks. I'll just use something else. Some of the best duelists I know are constantly using proxies because they can't afford to pick up the actual cards, and they've got decent sized collections.
