How much does YuGiOh! cost?

I just went through my receipts for the past year, on how much I hve spent on YuGiOh! (yes, I am that AR). I started the year with a list of all the cards I don't have and went on a crusade to buy them. Now, as I look back I think I over did it. The practice, though, has left me releaved at how much I support my local shops over the big stores.

only 1/5 of my total spending was at "big stores" (1/2 of that was target, 1/3 was Wal*Mart the rest was CVS, Borders and Barnes Noble-manga for the cards).

3/10 of my total spending was at comic book stores with a now defuct store holding the majority (over 2/3), and 1/10 going to two others and some change to three others.

The bulk (3/5) goes to cards shops (I don't do E-Bay). In fact over 1/3 of my total spending is at a local card shop that sells individual cards. Of the money spent at local shops, three shops take 1/9, and the rest are split btween three other shops.

All told, on just cards purchased at stores, I have receipts for $3, 015.80. Ouch! I had no idea I was spending so much! This does not include Tournaments or side purchases made with individuals. I estimate about $3500.00.

Now, some of you have been at this a while. Have I gone way over the deep end? Or is this normal? I hear of people spending some hundreds on just starting in Magic.

Also, how do you spend? Big stores? Card Shops? Comic Stores?
 
I have mates that spend about that on magic and a mate that spends about 100 euro every week or so buying a specific box of cards. Last one he bought was cybernetic revolution (he got an ultimate cyber end an ultra and a cyber twin. not one single cyber dragon or power bond) before that it was shadow of infinity before that 3 boxes of dark revelation 1. yeah he wants a specific card in a box then he buys a full one to get it.

Me i spend a hundred or so every few months but thats about it. I try to trade for most of my stuff.
 
I'm trying to keep my spending to about $15-20 a month on cards. I'm transitioning from YGO to Magic, so that means I'll be buying about 2-4 packs of Magic a month, or maybe a PreCon deck instead.

I don't even want to know how much I've spent total on YGO though. I want to think I've kept it under SOME control, lol.

me: but you said it was great we did things together....
her: you wouldn't have spent that much at a strip club... (imagine the sneer & extreeme sarcasm)
me: would you rather i took the boys to a strip club????we'd still be doing things toghther!

That's why you charge it all to a credit card your wife doesn't see and pay it off with odd jobs around town. That way all she complains about is "How come you never do any work on MY house like you do for everyone else?"


edit: not that I would do such a thing...
 
I haven't kept a count but all together I would say I have spent $5,000 this year. This includes every game and tournament. Now I have made about $3,000-$4,000 of that back easy. I just sold a few cards for $300 last week.
