I made a trade the other day and I don't know how I feel about it. Just wanted other people's opinion on who got the better end. Without saying who got what....

The trade was....

1 Grandmaster of the six samuri SR Promo (not the SCR)

for

2 Crystal Seer UR
1 Legacy of Yata-Garasu SR
1 Raiza the Storm Monarch
1 Shield Crush SCR

So do you guys think this was an even trade or lopsided? Keep in mind the current value of the Grandmaster.

I think whoever traded the Grandmaster for those cards got the better end of the deal. While Grandmaster is valued in this format, there aren't a lot of people willing to part with both a Crystal Seer AND a Raiza, nevermind the fact that the person got two Seer's out of the deal. The other cards are nice but easily found and traded. Congrats to whoever engineered that trade. Definitely got the better end of the bargain by giving up Grandmaster.

Agreed. Giving up 1 Grandmaster is well worth the deal, especially since that Grandmaster is deck specific while all 4 cards on the other end are pretty splashable.

Of course, it would very much depend on where you are. IF you are in the US, that would have been a good trade for the one who got the Seers and Raiza, but here in Ireland, 1 Grandmaster is worth at very least 2 Crystal Seers (I think there are only 5 play sets here and less than 10 overall floating around not part of that playset)

Don't forget to weigh in the most important factor. How valuable was the card to YOU.

When I do stuff like this, that's always the more important factor to me. I can have cards in my binder collecting dust, or can have what I want and need. Sure, I might make a lopsided trade monetary-wise. But how long term is that? What's 50 bucks today will likely be 10 bucks down the road. Or UDE will make it a common and it's 50 Cents down the road.

I've seen more disappointed traders when ten months down the road they realize, even though they got the better end of the deal the day the trade was made, the values dramatically changed killing any perceived sweetness of the deal, as opposed to the traders who took what looked like a financial loss, only to actually have the hard-to-get cards they need for gameplay or the cards they can get some trade mileage out of.

That's not to say you should trade willy nilly with no regard for monetary value. But I think personal value should hold a little bit more importance. Kind of the same way it does with your own individual finances. You might spend more on a item at a particular store then people you know do, but convenience, timing, store guarantees and a number of other attributes will contribute to what you perceive as the better value. I see this in much the same way.

....I thank you all for your opinions. I had 4 of the Grandmaster and someone really needed one, and I needed the Seer (which I ended up getting 2) and the Raiza. I really need another Corpse of Yata too...just one more now.

But I do like DJ's reasoning here...yeah, very true. Not that the Grandmaster isn't valuable and useable to me, but I had a 4th one and needed the other stuff. I still felt off after the trade though. But I feel that it was a good trade for both of us....and had I not had the extra GM, it would have never happened.
