Double-Edged Sword Technique VS Spirit of the Six Samurai
from UDE's Judge Certification Program (YGO)

Alright. So say a player activated double-edged, targeting Spirit and Grandmaster, it resolves. He equips spirit as a union onto grandmaster. At the end of the turn with the destruction effect resolves of double-edged, what happens?

I know spirit can't save Grandmaster if both are being targeted, but will spirit still be targeted for destruction since it "Becomes" an equip spell. I read through the union monsters section of the FAQ and have found nothing that really would answer my question. It's my opinion that only grandmaster would be targeted for destruction, spirit would die instead, and the controlling player would take no damage. But I've heard other judges argue that since the name of spirit hasn't changed, it's still marked for destruction, so honostly I could see either side being right. I just wanted an offical answer. Thanks.
