Jinzo vs. Macros Cosmos & Grand Convergence

With all the talk about Macros only needing to be on the field in order to chain Grand Convergence, my question is:

Can I flip Macros and then chain Grand Convergence while Jinzo or Royal Decree are face up on the field? Remember, Macros only needs to be "face up" on the field to activate Grand Convergence.

Royal Decree doesn't stop you from activating Traps. It'll work.

You can't activate Trap Cards with Jinzo. No go.

But both cards say the the traps can't be activated. I'm not activating the effect, merely flipping the card face up which is the only condition for Grand Convergence being chained to Macros. So, is it a legal move?

Actually, "Royal Decree" only says that all face-up Trap Cards are negated (except "Royal Decree") as long as it is face-up on the field. It does not stop activation of Trap Cards.

"Jinzo" negates face-up Traps AND disallows the activation of any face-down Trap Cards. You flip a Trap Card face-up in order to activate it. If you can't activate them, you can't flip them. "Jinzo" will not allow the situation you describe. However, if "Macro Cosmos" is already face-up on the field BEFORE "Jinzo" is Summoned, it is still legal to activate "Grand Convergence". It only needs to be face-up, not necessarily active, on the field to satisfy "Grand Convergence".

If you really need to flip a Trap Card face-up while Jinzo is active, all you have to do is play Bait Doll on it. It forces the activation of Trap Cards, and as long as it is a Continuous Trap, it will stay on the field.

Then you can just activate Grand Convergence, and Jinzo isnt a problem anymore.

i thought that activating any trap card while jinzo is out though bait doll the trap card is destroyed instently since the timing is incorrect

Ah, only Normal or Counter traps. Here's the ruling for Bait Doll -

"¢ If "Jinzo" is face-up on the field and the effect of "Bait Doll" forces the activation of a Normal or Counter Trap Card, that Trap Card's effect is negated and the Trap Card is destroyed. If a Continuous Trap Card is forced to activate by the effect of "Bait Doll" it will remain face-up on the field meaninglessly until "Jinzo" is destroyed.

oh right you learn something new every day

thank you. on this issue, I would like to say it does help me a little with my personal deck. intresting information.
so you cant magic jammer the magic card because of Jinzo. so I am right in saying you can sucselly magic Jammer a magic card if royel degree is out????

Have I got the right ruling please?

No, that is not correct. You can successfully activate "Magic Jammer", and pay the cost, but it's effect will be negated by "Royal Decree". "Royal Decree" does not prevent the activation of Traps. It only negates their effects.

Hope this helps!

So, in the above instance of my posting, it would be fair to say that I can flip Macros and chain Grand Convergence with Royal Decree on the field (since I'm not activating Macros effect) and cannot with Jinzo face up on the field. I understand the possibility of using Bait Doll but it's a far stretch with the way my deck is set up. Thanks for all the info.
