More Machine Than Man
Hi Everyone,

I'm sure you've all had kids show up to your tournaments and stores
thinking they can Summon "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" for their first move,
and have "Dark Paladin" in their Main Deck. I know it can be a little
frustrating telling them about the rules of the game, so I got you all
some back-up in teaching new players....Yugi and Joey!

By visiting
http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/yugioh/en/learntoplay.aspx (or
just go to our main site and click "Learn to Play") anyone can learn the
rules of Dueling from Yugi and Joey in an interactive Flash Demo.
They'll guide your new Duelists through an 8 turn Duel against a Duel
Computer teaching everything from the basics to more advanced concepts
like chains in a clear and engaging explanation.

I could go on about how great it is, but you should go see and hear for
yourself.

This is a great tool for learning the rules of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING
CARD GAME and I hope you all can direct new players to it and it'll help
make your jobs easier.

Thanks and Enjoy!

They make it sound like it was just done. It's been that way for at least a week, maybe longer. It's okay, but not really as helpful as they would like to make it seem.

I could go on about how many problems it has and holes it opens up just like the old "training" pages did, but you should go see and hear for yourself.

You crack me up bishop... XD...

I did check it out and such and, uh... it's not too different from the PoC games, IMO...

Well...I think it's AWESOME!! I love the animation and the fact it's the 'real' character voices, not fake ones.

Joey: Wow Yugi thanks for not going into spell speeds, special summoning in face-up defense position, activating cards in the damage step, priority in any manner whatsoever, or the fact that before you can play this game with any amount of surety you need to look up the rulings for many of the cards you will come across and that may have been errata'd.

I just check it out. It had some glitches in it. where I had to go to menu to start where I left off. It was neat looking but thats it really. its a start, I guess.

Once again, I am awe struck at the level of yugioh-card's mediocrity. They never fail to leave me wishing we ran the joint.

If we ran the joint, there would be no confusion. Sadly, we don't and there is confusion all over the place.

Anthonyj brings up a solid point - they brushed the basics, but the fine-tuned, confusing aspects of the game, and techniques to becoming a better duelist, like knowing card advantage and psychological games were not mentioned at all... *le sigh*

Not trying to defend their little "video" (especially since I haven't viewed it), but anything more than a light dusting of the basics would be pretty much a large project that would still leave many of the games nuances out.

It's like the old saying goes, "If you teach them how to fish, they can never go hungry." A lot of games have a long laundry list of rules that are difficult to understand and sometiimes you just have to dive in to get a feel for what they are trying to say, then go back and reread for more clarity.

I'm sure many here have played the game Monopoloy. They have a simple set of rules, and then they have an advanced set. Anyone who has played that game knows that it is not the easiest game to understand "fully", but most people can still grasp the mechanics of it.

A lot of people who are new to playing Yugioh will get their start from watching that video and will inevitably become curious, if they wish to improve their game skills, as to how they can do it. Of course that is where the more experienced players (like those on these type of forums) come in and direct them to places such as these.

And then we come to what may be the best opportunity for someone to capitalize on. Producing your "own" exclusive video on how to become a "basic through advanced" Yugioh TCG Player.

Again, I don't think anyone can fully cover everything that could come along, as the game keeps evolving, but as long as you cover enough, it puts them into the game well armed!!

Actually, if I recall correctly, there is a site out there that actually does produce videos on "becoming a better duelist" and other topics. What I remember was that they had basic through advanced topics and, while they were very poorly produced, they seem to have been popular for a time.
