Judges Test

Here is an article off my website on becoming a judge

How to become a Judge (or test for your next level)

You have been playing the game of Yu-Gi-Oh! for a while and now you want to move into the judging area. If you go to Upper Decks Certification page you will find links for the level one test for all areas of specialization except Yu-Gi-Oh! Rules. The reason for this is two fold, firstthere are a great number of Level One Yu-Gi-Oh! Rules judges already in the program.
Secondly, there have been issues in the past with people passing the Level One Rules test and using it to help them as a rules bully. For these reasons Upper Deck has removed the open testing link.

So how do you take the test? In the past Upper Deck has offered the test at the Mall Tour and at some high level events. I do not know if they will do this in the future. My suggestion for anyone who wants to become a judge is to find a hobby store that needs a judge. If you have a store in your area that runs Yu-Gi-Oh!, you can talk with the owner or manager to see if they need help. If you volunteer to help out with the tournament and work with some of the younger players to learn the game, then the store owner or manager maybe willing to contact UDE to see about getting you access to the level one test.

The other option is to get in touch with the Premier Tournament Organizer (PTO) for you area. If you go to the UDE Tournament Page you can look for the nearest regional. You can then
click on the regional and you will go to the detail page which will have an email address (or you can click on the Organizer's name) so you can send the PTO an email to see if they need
any help. Just like with the store owner, if the PTO needs help and feels you are doing a good job at their event, they may be able to contact UDE to get the Judge test for you.

Hope the information helps

Something I always wondered though...

What are the requirements to being recognized as a PTO???

I always wanted to find out, due to the fact that there are none in my area, it's nearly impossible to get to a larger event (unless I have more than $1000US on hand, save for sponsorship), and I REALLY REALLY want to be able to start hosting Regionals/Nationals in my country...especially after seeing tourneys in some other somewhat nearby countries that have turnouts to such events in smaller numbers than for tourneys here...

If anyone here can help me with some advice, it will be very highly appreciated, thanks! :)

I asked my PTO about this and he explained it to me rather quickly. Normally a PTO is an employee of a major tabletop gaming company. Such as Pastimes, UDE, Wizards of the Coast, etc. I was interested in becoming a PTO as you are until I found out that was the key requirement to becoming one.

I dont think it's that hard. From what I understand, if you can show that you regularly Host Events that average at least 100 or more participants, you can request to become a Premier Event Tournament Organizer.

Of course, that is something that is pretty hard to manage, unless you are in the right spot.

Hmm...well the PTO for Jamaica, I've been in contact with him...and the tourneys that he handles for Regionals/Nationals are nowhere near the 100 duelist turnout....check on UDE's website for tourneys in Jamaica, and you will see that they don't have that kind of numbers....their last Nationals had less than 60!

Due to that fact, I can't see why a PTO can be selected for smaller countries such as where I am, since it is prohibitively expensive for players to attend such events in other countries (both in terms of cash as well as organising approval for visas etc)...for a lot of duelists here, it's a case of they want to play in events that count for more ratings points than anything else, so far I've hosted about 18 tournaments so far (which is ALL the tournaments that have been sanctioned in my country).
