If I set Guardian Kay'est and then activate Book of Taiyou t flip it face-up do I get it's effect?

What effect?? Being unaffected by spells? As long as Kay'est is face-up on the field, it will be unaffected by spells, no matter how he got face-up on the field.

Continuous Effects are active as soon as they become face-up on the field. By the way, I think slither meant "she".
