KCVDS - Virtual Duel System

I have a website that has a Virual Desktop, like YVD.

KCVDS stands for Kaiba Corp Virtual Duel System. It's about to release it's new system update, so you might want to wait for untill it does before you try it out.

Here’s a little bit about KCVDS. Eventually it is supposed to be Automated, but I don’t think that will happen for another decade. BUT at this time everything is completely Manually done. Well sorta.

This is what happens.
You and another duelist have decided to duel. So now you click on rock paper or scissors. Winner chooses who goes first. Then, the system takes you to the field where each player draws 5 cards, and then the game starts. Player 1 draws automatically. Then, you click on the cards in your hand and choose an action, similar to a video game. Then the card does what you told it to, summons, sets, activate, ect. The cards automatically go where they are supposed to.

There are 2 downsides however, to KCVDS. 1, not all the cards are in the game yet. Most newer cards are, Many older cards are, but some in the middle are not.

Then, some functions are not yet available. For instance, KCVDS has Diamond Dude, but the ability to set a card on the bottom of the deck is not available.
Also, tokens and Counters are not available yet, although we do have Breaker, and a few other spell counter type cards. You just type in the text box what goes on with the counters.

Also, LP is not decreased and increased automatically, so you type in the text box “/add” or “/sub” followed by the LP you take or lose.

This is what I use, and it's actually a lot of fun. The sad thing is that a lot of people that play it are kids, while I, and the creator (Who calls himself Seto Kaiba) are both over 20. So please, take a look if you feel so inclined, I could really use some older duelists to go against. Also, since you guys are super rules smart, it would be nice to have you guys come and coach the newer duelists we're getting XD

haha, ok, that's enough for me for now.

I checked out KCVDS today. It's not a bad program. The interface is beautiful and for the most part it runs smoothly. Other than some minor errors, I have just a couple criticisms.

For one, I think programming rulings and most mechanics into it simply isn't worth the effort. YVD runs perfectly fine with a 100% manual system. After all, that's how we do it in real life. Not to mention there are bound to be countless annoying bugs and such to deter the process. It's a nice idea, but completely unnecessary in my opinion.

Also, the Phase switches are way too slow. I understand that the designer was probably trying to allow time for the player to activate a card before a Phase switch, but it could easily be at least a half second faster. Most players, especially experienced ones, will know exactly when they want to activate a card effect, and don't need a lot of time. Keeping the game centered around its actual rulings and mechanics is a good idea, but impractical for the most part. I don't think I'm alone when I say most people would prefer the "optional" Phase switches, like in YVD.

The deck building process seems slightly clumsy at first. For some reason the designer decided to create new sets and put the cards in them, rather than keeping the real life sets intact. While this really isn't much of a hindrance (especially considering there's a search function that allows you to seek out any card you want), I'm having a hard time understanding why it's necessary.

As Krishna mentioned, they don't have every card in their database yet (they're around 600 right now). However, they do have the vast majority of the cards we see and use every day. Jinzo, the Monarchs, the warrior toolbox, and tons of other frequently accessed cards are all at the player's disposal.

But this program is more good than bad, that's for certain. Unlike YVD, it has multiple "lobby" rooms where you can seek out other duelists. It even shows who needs an opponent and who is currently dueling. With enough popularity, I see no reason why someone won't be able to just pop in and duel a few times, then log out.

As I mentioned earlier, the interface is gorgeous. A full Flashplayer engine allows for bright and smooth Animations. The card pictures are spot on, and the menus aren't too hard to navigate. A few added shortcut keys here and there, along with maybe a little rearranging or deletion of some items and every duelist can be zipping through decks and duels in no time.

KCVDS has tons of potential, and if it keeps heading in this direction, it may become the online duelist's program of choice in no time flat.
