Looking Ahead 1 - Exodios

This was an idea awhile ago. The purpose was to look at interesting cards that aren't available in the TCG. Now there's no guarentee that we will or won't get any of the cards listed in these articles. However the cards brought in here are definitely worthy of discussion. Here's the first one. It is a Weekly Jump promo card in Japan (so if we do get it, it would be a Shonen Jump promo card).

Ultimate Sealed God - Exodios
Dark/Spellcaster/10/?/0
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by returning all monsters in your Graveyard to your Deck. When this card attacks, send 1 monster from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard. The ATK strength of this card is equal to the number of Normal Monsters in your Graveyard x 1000 points. When this card is removed from the field, it is removed from play. If 5 "the Forbidden One" cards are sent to the Graveyard by the effect of this card, you win the Duel.

Comboability. That is about the best way to describe this card. It can be used as a suppliment in an Exodia deck even if you had one of the pieces removed from play (since not, it says 5 "The Forbidden One" cards, not 5 specific cards). However, the card will likely find use outside of an Exodia deck as well.

1) It's very easy to summon, and in fact will let you recycle your entire Graveyard back into your deck to reuse cards you lost.

2) After it's summoned, you can try to set up a OTK with Advanced Ritual Art (8 Normals in the GY = 8000 attacker).

3) Metamorphosis into Cyber End Dragon.

4) Use it as a Foolish Burial effect.

5) Use it as a way to compliment and support a Normal Monster themed deck.

Granted, the card has its flaws. It is a Nomi monster and suffers from the DMoC effect of when it's removed from play, but if you run multiples of the card, even that can be gotten around by using Burial from a Different Dimension.

While Exodios was designed with a Win Condition, that will probably be the least used effect of the card. But the fact that it was a Win Condition coupled with everything else you can do with it makes Exodios a very strong and useful card in all kinds of decks. Definitely one I'd like to see come to the TCG.

4.5 out of 5

Here here. Versatility and options are what I look for in a monster, and this guy has it. I can't really expand on anything you pointed out or add any new ideas (except for obvious mill options like Card Trooper, Reasoning/Monster Gate), but I will echo your sentiments on wanting to get this card.

Nice review.

Now this is definitely a card that would be wild to try out, I hadn't heard about this one yet, for sure. I can see many, many ways to abuse it, though, and it definitely belongs in an Advanced Ritual Art deck of ANY kind, period. I'd say watch out for this one to make some news, but normal monster decks definitely need support similar to this. I just hope it's not too broken, like I fear it may be, as they seem to like to overpower a lot of their promo cards.

Will this be a somewhat regular feature?

Well, another thing that can help with it are Gemini Monsters since they are considered to be Normal Monsters while in the Graveyard as well.

As for this being a regular feature, would you guys like it to be one?

I wouldn't mind it, myself. I see a lot of the OCG cards in the video games, and by just looking around, and keep waiting and hoping for half of them to make it over here, since most of the more powerful or even "broken" cards that seem to define the Japanese game are their promos. I think it gives a unique look at what we're missing, and what we could be having, and hopefully might have in the future.

If this is a recent card, just imagine if it would make an impact at World's, in some kind of Exodios/Demise deck.

Let me put it this way, it's so recent it's not even out in Japan yet (but will be in the next issue of Weekly Jump).

It wouldn't be legal at Worlds though since it doesn't have a worldwide release though (unfortunately).

2) After it's summoned, you can try to set up a OTK with Advanced Ritual Art (8 Normals in the GY = 8000 attacker).

The silly thing is, since Advanced Ritual Art effect is a part of the effect the whole way, and NOT a cost, you can activate it even without any Ritual Monster in your hand. (i.e. without a valid target) I've seen people activate Advanced Ritual Art with no Demise and just toss 2x Normal Insect types just to summon Doom Dozer. With that ruling being legal, we "can" literally dump like 8x LV4 normal monster, "SAY" that you are trying to summon a LV32 Ritual Monster in hand, and have no target and fails. Yeah, I just dumped a load of normals for an 8000ATK beatstick LOL. (Seriously, Advanced Ritual Art is Future Fusion in a Ritual Spell form)

And yes, if the whole DMoC/SPoN + Meta = Cyber Twin Dragon is scary, this monster + Meta for Cyber End Dragon is just evil.

Dr you must have a ritual monster in hand in order to play ARA. If you dont have a valid target you cant activate it just like you cant pay 500 lifepoints to use ultimate offering when you have no monsters in your hand.

Hmm, you sure about that. Cause a LV2 judge said it was legal. Since none of the effect is a cost, it's just all part of the effect one by one.

While it may not target a specific ritual monster in your hand you must have at least one in hand to activate the effect of ARA. If theres nothing there it cant get its effect and if it cant get its effect it cant activate. A judges level really means nothing when it comes right down to it. Everyone can be wrong sometimes. its just when a higher level judge is wrong people tend to trust him anyway. I may be wrong but i dont see any way that its possible in this situation.

I see a great future in combo with the five-headed dragon :D

I see a great future for this card in just about any deck.
