Looking Ahead 18 - Des Calibur Knight

Yes, we DO take requests, and because YOU wanted to see it, here is some more Fiendish Love.

Des Calibur Knight
Dark/Fiend/4/1900/1800
This card cannot be Special Summoned. When the effect of an Effect Monster activates, you must Tribute this face-up card to negate that effect and destroy that monster.

Where From: Valuable Book Promo 8
Likely TCG Appearance: Champion Pack / Structure Deck

Ok, I'm going to stick with the most common form of the name since "Skull Descovery Knight" (it's name in WC07) just ... no. And since that likely won't be the official name of the card in the TCG...

This card forms the anchor for the CyberDesGorz theme deck in the OCG (Cyber Dragon + Des Calibur Knight + Gorz) and for good reason. This monster works as a manditory Divine Wrath against any other effect monster in the game. Whenever a monster's effect activates and this card is face-up, it gets tributed off, the other effect is negated and the other monster is destroyed. It will often force your opponent to have to find other ways to deal with this monster.

However, there are a couple of things you need to be wary of. For starters, DCK's negation effect is manditory. You don't have a choice on what to negate or not. So, if your opponent is looking to bring back Treeborn Frog, you've basically lost this card completely. Further, it's negation effect will work against your own monster's as well. So if you end up summoning a card like Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, DCK will tribute himself, negate Zaborg, and then destroy it, effectively self-destructing on you. Further, since DCK cannot be special summoned, most of the time he will be a 1 time only card unless you can get it back into your deck.

4 out of 5. Despite all the downsides, Des Calibur Knight is a very powerful card. It's stats are about as strong as you can get for a Non-Tribute on both ATK and DEF. Unlike most cards though, DCK requires skill and forethought in order to play it correctly and not have it backfire on you. However, the ability to shut down your opponent's monsters make cards like Des Calibur Knight and Light and Darkness Dragon very popular choices in OCG Tournament decks.

It's the only real 1900ATK beatstick with a good effect. (outside of something like Card Trooper or something) Anyway, are we actually getting this? This thing will totally boost Sky Scourage decks. (Being a solid 1900ATK Dark/Fiend)

There's no word or rumor (or even a hint of one) on a TCG appearance. The likely appearance is just my speculation where other cards of a similar printing have come out in.
