Magician's Circle
Normal Trap
"You can only activate this card when a Spellcaster-Type monster declares an attack. Each player selects 1 Spellcaster-Type monster from their Deck with an ATK of 2000 or less, and Special Summon it in face-up Attack Position to their side of the field."
There are no published rulings for "Magician's Circle" at the current time.
We close Spell Counter/Nightmare Troubadour week with what I feel to be one of the most interesting traps to come down the pike, Magician's Circle.
The first thing that comes to mind is swarming. If you already have a Spellcaster on the field and attack with it, you can bring out another. Not only that, but it's a Spellcaster with 2000 ATK or less. There are currently 94 eek: )monsters that fit that criteria, so you can imagine the possibilities. Not only that, but consider the fact that most decks run Magician of Faith and/or Breaker the Magical Warrior. Your opponent will be forced to either choose a 300 ATKer and probably not get a Spell back (save for Book of Moon)... or a Breaker without his counter. Imagine playing this against an Exodia deck. Sorry 'bout your luck.
And that's provided they can special summon; they may have no available Spellcasters. Another nice thing about this card is that the ATK by the Spellcaster doesn't even have to succeed. It can be negated by things such as Magic Cylinder, Negate Attack, Mirror Force, etc and you'll still get your Special Summon.
As for the downsides, Royal Decree and Jinzo totally own this card. Add in the fact that it can only be activated when a Spellcaster-type declares an attack. You either have to hope it lasts the turn you set it, your opponent's turn, and then use it on your next turn... or, hope your opponent is playing Spellcasters also, in which case they have more options to Special Summon.
Decks that should run this... pretty much any deck with 2 or more Spellcasters. Let's see, that could be Breaker, Magician of Faith, Tsukuyomi, even Kycoo. I'm sure you can see the possibilities here.
Dark Magican decks just got a new best friend. Attack with a Skilled Dark and bring out another, or Dark Magician Girl and get around tributing her. (Heck, this card just made Dark Magician Girl and Sage's Stone more playable.)
As if Gravekeeper's didn't have enough swarming with Rite of Spirit and Gravekeeper's Spy, now they have this little beauty as well. Simply awesome.
I can already see major potential with this card and the new ban list should only increase it's usefulness.
Advanced: 4.5/5 - it helps you swarm and probably mucks with your opponent's plans. It's really only hurt by being a trap you'll most likely have to wait to activate on your own turn.
Traditional: 4.5/5 - granted, removal is rampant here, but the possiblities are still too good
Limited --/5
