the masked dragons effect doesnt say which mode to place the monster in... so can that be considered your choice? or does it have to go into ATK?

A Dragon-Type monster Special Summoned by The Masked Dragon's effect can be summoned in either face-up attack position or face-up defense position (you pick).

At anytime you Special Summon a monster, it must be Special Summoned face up on the field in either ATK or DEF position UNLESS specified by the card used to perform the Special Summon
