Neos Wiseman says he's unaffected by card effects that destroy him, My friend argues that even Solemn Judgement cant take him out since it destroys the card. I keep telling him that it's negating the summon and since he never hits the field, his abilty doesnt activate (just like Jinzo). Please tell us who is right.

Now Silent Swordsman Lv5 says he is unaffected by opp spells's, my friend argues this effect is always active, even if the card is in the hand, graveyard, or face-down. I tried to explain to him that it is an ignition effect and doesnt activate until he hits the field but he wont accept that answer. So if someone else can tell him he's wrong....:)

looking at this link, Rainbow Neos is listed as a monster with an ignition effect

Definition: Ignition Effects require a manual activation by the card's controller during their Main Phase 1 or 2 and, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are available to use as soon as the card hits the field. This type of effect used to be called a "Cost Effect" in the early days of Yu-Gi-Oh, which was slightly confusing because not all of those monsters had a cost.

Therefore until Neos is on field, he can be destroyed by solemn, as solemn negates the summon.

Silent Swordsman lv5's effect would not be utilised when in the hand. Monsters in hand do not have their effects unless stated otherwise. Same applies with it being face-down, as it not being treated as Silent Swordsman Lv5 but just another odinary monster.

I believe it's effect does indeed apply in the graveyard, although i am not sure about that.

"Neos Wiseman"'s effect is a Continuous effect, which means it only applies while the monster is face-up on the field. The card can be destroyed by a card effect while it's in the hand, and it can be destroyed during its Summon (e.g. by "Solemn Judgment").

The same goes for "Silent Swordsman LV5". Its immunity effect is a Continuous effect, meaning it only applies if the monster is face-up on the field.

Any Continuous effect will only ever apply when the monster is face-up on the field, unless specifically mentioned otherwise.

Make sure to learn what the difference is between an Ignition and a Continuous effect. The former uses the Chain, and you pick a specific time to activate it. The latter does not use the Chain, and "switches on" (it does not activate) whenever it's in the correct position (face-up on the field by default, and/or wherever it says it needs to be to get the effect).
