Well, I don't know if you saw the thread Zaluriel posted from Gaming Report, but I found it interesting:

[/floatr] An Anonymous Reader Reports: Upper Deck Entertainment (UDE) is currently working on the next Marvel Trading Card Game Vs. System expansion set and would like the input of TCG players around the world. Releasing as a “players’ choice” set, UDE’s Marvel Universe expansion, scheduled for summer 2008, will be created with the input of Vs. System fans who will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite cards to appear in the set. Players can cast their votes Nov. 5 through Dec. 31 at http://www.vssystem.com.

“This is the first time we’ve ever incorporated input on this large of scale where the fans are designing nearly the entire set,” said Vs. System Product Manager Hyrum Savage. “We wanted to reward Vs. System players who have been dedicated to the game throughout the years by producing a set based on what they would like to see in the game.”

Every few weeks, UDE will post a new category online that players can vote for. These categories will include teams, characters, mechanics, and storylines, to name a few. The information will then be gathered by UDE and implemented into the upcoming set.

UDE will continue organized play support for the Vs. System through the end of 2007 and into next year with the current line-up of the Elite Series program, Hobby League and Release Celebrations. Beginning early next year, UDE will also host an array of Mega Weekends that will feature various tournaments for players of all levels that will lead up to the Vs. System World Championship Tournament in August. Details of the World Championship Tournament and Mega Weekends will be announced in December.

I was wondering whether or not VS was dead. Around my area no one plays anymore and there aren't any more city championships. I actually stopped playing VS for months now, and I'm looking to get rid of the few cards I do have left....

You convinvced me. I'll take 'em. Wait, that wasn't an offer, was it. I'll take 'em anyway.

Anywhoo, yeah, no one really plays it around here either, especially since the money's not as good. Every so often someone gets a game goin at their house, but not often. However, I knew it wasn't compeletely dead. It just seems not too many people played this game with the "fun factor" that they had for Yu-Gi-Oh! Then again, I found it odd that not too many people playing it were comic readers, so therefore, didn't have that connection like what some players have to Yugi and the cartoon.

The only real reason I started playing the game was because UDE marketed the game as a professional player game similar to the way Magic is considered a professional game.

You can go and play VS without having to worry about playing little kids. Not that having a younger audience is bad, I just didn't feel comfortable playing against them at regionals or bigger tournaments because I wasn't going to cut them any breaks.

Anyways UDE really shot that game in the foot by removing the money and professional aspect of the game and then trying to shift it into a hobby game. If they wanted to do that they should have marketed it in that manner from the start like UFS did.
