New game mechanic

RIP Jacob KT 2/16/06
This new game mechanic (new to me at least) states that all cards activated in a chain remain untill the ENTIRE chain resolves unless destroyed, returned to the hand, or removed from play during sed chain...

First off, has this always been this way or did it come out with the 5.0 rule book...

secondly, does this mean I can't chain my MST to my opponent's Stamping Destruction to prevent the 500 direct damage? Can I still activate MST on itself?

I've only been playing for a few months, but this is how I was taught it works, so I don't think it is new.

From the card registry for Stamping Destruction:
When you activate this card, if the opponent activates an effect in a chain that destroys the targeted Spell or Trap Card, the opponent will not take the 500 points of damage. If your opponent merely chains the Spell or Trap card that you targeted, the Spell or Trap Card will be destroyed when "Stamping Destruction" resolves and your opponent will take 500 points of damage. (Remember that Spell and Trap Cards remain on the field until the entire chain resolves, unless destroyed by a card effect during the chain.)

Can I still activate MST on itself?
I don't believe you have ever been able to do that.

Hasn't this section of the FAQ been there for eons?....

IMPORTANT: When resolving a chain, as the cards resolve they are NOT sent to the Graveyard until the entire chain has resolved, or a card specifically destroys them. This is important for cards such as "Princess of Tsurugi" and "Secret Barrel" where the effect depends on the number of Spell & Trap Cards on the field.

I'm uncertain of the exact date that it did.
