Hey all, I just got some Marvel Kinghts packs and there are some new terms and concepts that I was wondering if you could help me out with. The online rules seem more like a contract and it gets too verbose at times. Here's what I'm curious about

Boosts - Some cards have Boost 1 and an effect, Boost 2 and an effect, and so one. What do those mean? How do they work?

Loyalty - Is this different than a team affiliation? I only have 1 or two cards at the moment with this on it

Hidden Zone - Ahh yes, I've heard and read a few things about it. Is the hidden zone like "dark side" of your normal zone in that a character has a front row and support row? I've also heard that if your opponent has no characters in the hidden zone, you can attack directly, and if you have no characters in your normal zone, but one in your hidden zone, your opponent can't attack you directly. Is this how it works? A little more clarification would be great.

Thanks in advance all!

Boost means that when you recruit the character, you can pay the boost number in resources for the ability after Boost. For example, Metron (in the DC Superman set) is a 5 cost character with Boost 2: When Metron comes into play, your opponent may not play Plot Twists this turn. So, you could recruit Metron for 5 (as normal) and you won't get the boost effect. Or, you could recruit Metron for 7 resource points to get the Boost effect.

Loyalty means: Recruit this character only if you have a character on the field that shares a team affiliation with this character.

The hidden area (note, it is an area not a zone, which is important for some card effects) is an area to the left of your visible area (the place where you normally recruit characters). Basically, characters that are in the hidden area cannot be attacked. Formations are still done as normal, but characters in the hidden area are never adjacent to characters in the visible area, etc. Additionally, equipment cannot be recruited to the hidden area unless the equipment specifically states that it can. If a character moves between areas while equipped, they will lose that equipment (it will be sent to the KO pile) unless the equipment specifically states otherwise.
If your opponent only has hidden characters in play, you may attack directly unless the attacking character has the ability to attack hidden characters.

Cool, that makes more sense now.

So with the hidden zone, just to make sure I'm clear on things. Hidden characters can't reinforce or team attack, even if there are multiple characters in the hidden zone. So can my hidden characters attack directly if my opponent has no hidden characters on the field?

Hmmm... Why can't hidden zone creatures reinforce or team attack when they are of the same affliations? If they are affliated, that means that they can team attack and reinforced(but only in the hidden zone). I believe hidden zone is only an extra creature zone just like the support and front row. Just that you cannot attack the creatures there unless you have the "ability" to do so. Also, creatures in hidden zone cannot protect you from direct attack.

Yes, you may do a direct attack on your opponent if he/she has no creatures in his/her support and front row.

Characters in the hidden area can certainly team attack with characters of the same affiliation unless otherwise stated (one of the Black Widows is like that). Reinforcement would of course only apply in the hidden area with other hidden area characters (as they are never adjacent to visible characters).

just seperate your board.

Hidden and visible.

if it isnt in the visible area unless it states you can, you cant.

normally.

if its the Hidden area same deal.

like when team attacking with hidden characters then its only hidden characters.

you cant team attack with a hidden and visible if their both in 2 locations.

consider visually like 2 floors.

the hidden is the basement and the Visible is floor 1.

if your characters in floor 1 are battling how can the basement characters help out the ones in floor 1. they cant.

:D

its easy when you visualize it. but beyond that i was like "What the heck are you talking about?"

Actually, as Dlanaan pointed out, you CAN team attack with a hidden and a visible character. You just can't use them to reinforce each other because the hidden area is not adjacent to the visible area.

so you can team attack.

man, so specifically is this how "concealed" characters work:

1. Hidden cant reinforce visible.
2. Hidden comes out in hidden unless otherwised specified.
3. Hidden characters can only be attacked by hidden characters unless otherwised specified. (next text for bizarroworld.)
4. Hidden characters can team attack with visible characters.
5. Hidden characters on the field alone then opponent(s) can attack you directly.
6. Visible characters on opponent(s) on the field only hidden characters can attack directly.

is there more?

3 is not correct and 5 and 6 should be clearer:

3. Hidden characters cannot be attacked by any characters, hidden or visible, unless a modifer states to the contrary.
5. Visible characters can attack directly if the opponent only controls hidden characters only if those visible characters are unable to attack hidden characters.
6. Hidden characters may not attack directly unless the opponent controls no non-stunned visible characters (or visible AND hidden characters if those hidden characters can attack hidden characters.)
