no replays from monster effekts?

A replay is triggered when an attack has been declared, and the number of monsters on the defending player's side of the field is changed during the attack by a Trap Card or a Quick-Play Spell Card.

hi ho,

my question, is this statement completely correct? focus on the point, witch cards create a replay, only spell and trap cards. aren't monster effects able to create a replay?

until now, i don't know a monster that could bring up a question like this, but for the future it would be nice to know, if no replays are trigged from monster effects.

In the FAQ,  Berserk Gorilla and Spirit Reaper are ruled to create replays if their effects are triggered.  Monster Effect are ruled to create replays.  The text should be corrected in the rule book that ships with the Structure decks.

Also, cards like "Gravekeeper's Assailant" can create a replay (if it attacks a "Berserk Gorilla"), and also, remember "Strike Ninja"? If you use his effect when your opponent attacks you, a replay would take place as well.

Watch out when you read the Rule Book because a lot of things have been updated.

Monster effects can cause a replay if the effect does one of the following before entering the Damage Step of the Battle Phase

a) Change the number of monsters on the opponents side of the field.
b) The target of the attack is no longer a valid target. (Though I can't think of any monster effect that falls under this category).

The case with Gravekeeper's Assailant vs. Spirit Reaper / Berzerk Gorilla causes the first condition to be true. The number of monsters on the opponent's side changes. That's really all you need to go by in this case.

I think I'll write an article explaining this more in detail for the January ARRJ...

That is the exact reason why "Sasuke Samurai #4" does not cause a replay if it destroys one of your opponent's monsters with its effect.

The effect of "Sasuke Samurai #4" takes place in the Damage Step, and replays can't take place at this point.

By the way, did you get my cards today densetsu_x?

ok whats than up with this situation:
i attack lily with my mad dog, lily boost--> divine wrath

thats in the damage step.... replay or not?

"Divine Wrath" is going to be a pain since it is (to the best of my knowledge) the only card that can destroy a monster during the Damage Step. I'll forward this question to the mailing list because I can see the (il)logic by saying "yes" and "no".

My best guess at this would be "no" it doesn't cause a replay and the attack would become a direct one. My reasoning behind this is cause the best of my knowledge, if you attack a face down "Guardian Kay'est", she isn't flipped up until the Damage Step. Her effect would normally not allow her to be targeted by an attack but by this point it's too late for that so the attack goes through and calculations done as normal. So similar instance... you blow up the "other monster" so it's the ATK of your monster vs. 0 ATK of the no-longer-on-the-field monster and thje player takes the full damage.

Either way though, you have a "Null and Void" exception here which is going to cause much much pain.

"Divine Wrath of the Card Makers upon the Judges" is more accurate for this one.

I would disagree with the attack becoming direct. If the monster is destroyed during the damage step then damage calculation doesn't happen. So no damage is calculated. This has been the way it works with Sasuke Samurai's effect and the like. So Injection Fairy is destroyed by Divine Wrath and the battle is over. Move on to the next monster that can attack.

*light bulb goes on*

Actually, that was about the best thing you could have said to straighten out this mess in 1 simple statement. Even if "Sasuke Samurai" or "Mystic Swordsman LVx" were equipped with something like "Big Bang Shot", there wouldn't be trample damage either... it's just a shot to destroy it and open up the side to the other monsters...
