hi guys
just wanted to check something out, lets say NoC hits a flip effect and lets say for arguements sake that it is cyber-jar, now if for instance this is the second(1 by both players) CJ played do both players have to go through their decks as per NoC line text or does it kinda forget that seeing how CJ is limited and neither player will have another one indeck?

Even thought it is a "Restricted to 1" card, the effect states that both players must look through each others deck and remove all copies of the card if it is a Flip Effect.

Common sense tells you that if you have already removed one from play, or one is in the Graveyard or on the field, that there is not likely to be another one in either players deck, but this isnt about common sense. It's about what the card effect states, and it tells you exactly what to do, and it must be followed.

This isnt a case where it says somewhere down below,

If the card is limited or restricted, you can choose to search your opponents deck.

Its mandatory that you do so.

yeah thats what i thought as well, that you would have to because NoC does say deck check, i only ask because at a local tourny today summit similar happened(was not CJ it was MoF and 1 had already been played) and the head guy said that there was no need as both had already been played and it was restricted anyway ( was no me playing it was a friend i was watching, he missed out on top 8 cos of that, i was going to argue the head guy on it but i thought not as he might DQ me)

The problem is, when you start going against what a card effect states, then you are not properly following Game Rules.

What if the next card were Jinzo or Mobius the Frost Monarch that the opponent draws? Would he still draw that card if his deck were searched and shuffled?

Chance is as much a part of the game as anything, and by casually avoiding the "search your deck", you, or your opponent avoid having to shuffle your decks.

I'm sure it happens more often than not, but when it does, it is incorrect to do so since you could easily find yourself in a situation where you are running a flip effect that you can have 3 copies of, like Magical Merchant, and maybe you only have one copy. Can you just say, "I only have one copy, so I dont have to search!"

It sets a bad precedence when you do that, since it messes up a Game Mechanic that should follow afterwards. And I'm sure the "I only have one copy" reply is why so many people are mistakenly not searching each others decks, not by bad playing, but by bad habit.

i agree, i have always played it as both check, given a chance to check each other for conformation and then shuffle regardless of whether the card is limited/semi or whatever as that is what the line of text says on the card but it was just what happened( which left a very bitter taste in mine and my mates mouth) that i had to ask and print off for futher referance ( i know proberly that it is in no way official but it will proberly make the head guy think again)

anyways like i said thx for confirming everything that i thought was right :)

here have a cookie * gives masterwoo0 a BIG choc chip cookie*
